About Caleb

Bio

I'm a music-loving stay-at-home dad who enjoys sharing his hobbies of guitar and trumpet with the world! I have been teaching students of all ages, from elementary-age to older adults, for over 4 years now and I particularly enjoy introducing beginners to the joys of a new instrument. Whether you are just picking up your instrument for the first time, or dusting it off after years of sitting in the closet, I'm honored you would consider me to help you along your journey.

While I have studied music and music education at the university level, I have also learned a great deal through real-world experience and playing alongside other musicians and gleaning whatever I can from them. I have played both trumpet and guitar my whole life and consider myself to be a life-long learner of both instruments. Since becoming a father, I've enjoyed the experience of taking everything I've learned and sharing it with those around me, especially with those who are new to music or have always wanted to give it a try, but maybe have lacked the confidence to really give it a go. I believe anyone can learn to play an instrument and have fun doing it.

I am extremely patient and have taught a wide variety of students the basics of the guitar or the trumpet, whether they are "naturally gifted" or consider themselves to be tone deaf. Having played both instruments for almost 20 years now, studying with various teachers and logging countless hours of personal practice and live performance, I have learned a great deal about both instruments in various genres, from jazz to classical to pop to folk to worship. I have also taught for over four years now, so I've learned what you will need to be a successful musician and get off on the right track. I try my best to stay out of the thick weeds of impractical, "high brow" music and focus on what's really important to most students - learning how to play songs that they love and can share with others! What good is learning an instrument if you only know how to play scales and exercises? Of c

Music

General Music,

General Music

I have studied and completed university-level courses in Music Theory, Ear Training and Music History. I have also played both the guitar and trumpet for 15 and 20 years, respectively, both personally and in professional settings, as well as teaching students in private studio lessons. I have great personal interest and have undertaken personal study and research in chord theory and music analysis in both classical and jazz music.
Guitar,

Guitar

I have studied and practiced the guitar with various teachers for over a decade and completed university-level courses in Music Theory, Ear Training, Music History and Private Instruction. My students range from 7 to 55 years old over a span of 4 years of teaching. I have worked with students to develop proper technique in strumming, chord building, finger picking, tab reading, music notation and song writing. My specialty is in personally tailoring lessons to meet the individual needs and goals of each student, rather than focusing on overly broad curriculum that may or may not apply to what a student is interested in learning.
Trumpet,

Trumpet

I have been playing the trumpet for 20 years and have taught many students as well as gigged professionally in various groups. My experience ranges from classical symphony orchestras to small jazz ensembles, pop orchestras, rock music and soul. I have studied under multiple teachers at the university level and completed coursework in Music Theory, Ear Training and Music History, as well as Jazz Theory and Composition. I have performed with various groups on three continents in every setting from late-night bar crowds to packed concert halls.
