About Nicole

In 2008, I was awarded a Fulbright research grant to create a visual ethnography in Madrid, Spain. I hold a Masters degree in Anthropology & International Development from the University of Oxford. I received my BA from Swarthmore College.

I love teaching and tutoring in essay writing, social science, and politics and have been worked with high school students and college undergraduates as an instructor for several years. In 2015, I was an instructor for the prestigious Oxbridge Academic Programs- Oxford Tradition held at the University of Oxford. I also taught an award-winning course at Oberlin College as part of their Experimental College program.

I hold both undergraduate and graduate degrees in Anthropology. I'm also passionate and knowledgeable about the issues, theories, and methodologies of anthropology and how they shape culture, governance, politics, history, social relations, and our understanding of the world.

As a writer and avid reader, I am knowledgeable about a variety of key canonical texts in literature, especially English literature and Latin American literature.

My background in anthropology is rooted in world histories spanning Latin America, the Caribbean. Africa, and Asia.

As an art museum professional, I have expertise in American and European art history as well as contemporary trends in art history.

I love to support and empower students in a safe and patient environment where ideas are shared, questions unpacked, and deeper understanding, engagement, and confidence with the materials are achieved!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Anthropology

I hold a BA in Anthropology & Sociology from Swarthmore College. I recently received a Masters from the University of Oxford in Migration Studies, a joint degree from the School of Anthropology & Museum Ethnography and the Oxford Department of International Development. I also received a Fulbright research grant in anthropology to create a visual ethnography in Madrid, Spain.

I taught high school students in the Oxford Tradition summer program a course on popular culture using ethnography and anthropology theories to analyze culture.
