About Ashley

I am a current medical student with over two years of tutoring experience. I have experience tutoring in many subjects, but my specialty is test prep for college. I have over 200 hours of total experience, and approximately 150 of those hours are in test prep.

My tutoring style involves coaching the student into reaching the answers on their own. For example, If they struggle to find the correct equation, I teach them how to locate resources and how to look at the variables present to select the best way to solve a problem. After working through a problem together, I will give each student a similar problem for them to solve on their own (helping as needed) until they can solve it on their own and understand how to solve similar problems in the future.

For test prep in particular, I focus on identifying and eliminating content gaps as well as skills to eliminate wrong answers and how to figure out what the question is really asking, which is often most of the battle on comprehension based testing.

I can also tutor in additional subjects ranging from elementary school through college level, with a focus in biology and chemistry.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

MCAT

I am a college graduate who will apply to medical school in the coming year. I took over 20 MCAT practice tests, averaging a score of 35 with a high score of 37. I averaged an 11 in physical sciences, 13 in verbal reasoning, and a 12 in biological sciences. On the actual exam, taken in May 2012, I received a 35, 10 in physical sciences, 13 in verbal reasoning, and 12 in biological sciences.

Swimming

I have been a competitive swimmer since the age of six. I was the captain of my high school swim team and a varsity team member in college. I have taught multiple people how to swim and I personally tutored more than 20 people in stroke, turn, and start technique for all four strokes.

Highly recommended! — Can't say enough good things about Ashley. My son met with her once a week for about 90 minutes to prepare for the ACT. In the first meeting, she set up a study plan based on a practice test he took and his scheduled ACT test. Each week she was organized, patient, knowledgeable and a great motivator. After working with her for about 4 months, my son did awesome on the ACT. We are very sad she had ...
