In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I am an algebra teacher and have a solid background in mathematics. I can answer questions about the homework assignments, help with writing proofs, vocabulary and theorem development and reteach or preteach lessons. I am able to help review for tests and quizzes and can use the resources available to me to create review material.

I taught fifth grade for 5 years. My license areas are math and science and working towards a masters in reading. I can help students with reading comprehension. More specifically looking for context clues, vocabulary development, and fluency. I am able to develop test taking strategies along with reading instruction. Improving reading skills will also improve test scores. Building confidence as a reader through finding at level books and books within a students interests are important and Lexile is a tool I use to find these books.

I can also work with elementary students in math. Building basic math facts and using a hands on approach allow students to build confidence. I have tools to help students organize their work when completing story problems. It gives a step by step approach to solving multi-step problems.

8th grade algebra teacher and 8th grade advanced algebra teacher. I have taught 15 years at the intermediate and middle school levels.
