I am a recently retired business manager, having worked primarily in marketing related positions for 30+ years. I have an undergraduate degree in English/Journalism.
Being an avid reader throughout most of my life, I cherish the written word and its ability to open doors into exciting new worlds and opportunities. As a business professional, I often used story telling to deliver relevant and meaningful messages, which are so critical in our often cold, digital world.
My love of children and watching them discover has driven my interest in tutoring. Learning to read and write provides a strong foundation for building strong communications and analytical skills, so critical to facing life's challenges.
I specialize in tutoring younger children, between the ages of 6 and 12 in English-related subjects including reading, writing and grammar. Working with younger children, I have found an abundance of patience is important, as well as a more personalized program, which not only engages the student, but also addresses their individual learning needs and interests.
I also rely on information from parents to help identify those interests and needs, and will often communicate with parents to gain feedback on their child's learning experiences. Personalized homework after each session will be assigned, and I provide periodic assessments and progress reports to both students and parents.
And, should either a parent or student not be totally satisfied with a tutoring lesson, I will not bill for that session. I try to be flexible, but require a minimum of 24 hours for cancellation. I am located in Red Wing, MN and conduct tutoring sessions within my home or will travel up to 1/2 hour to a more convenient location for the student.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
