I was born and raised in Japan. I went to one of the toughest top 20 high schools in Japan. I studied at Meiji University, one of the best universities. I later graduated with a distinction honor from the University of Michigan, obtained an MBA from the University of Texas. I have been a very successful business executive in the medical field, but I often had opportunities to tutor people who were interested to learn the Japanese language.
One thing I personally know about learning a foreign language is that teachers do not pay close attention to each student's progress and his/her unique struggles. Such challenges are more about correct pronunciation, intonation, appropriate timing of using phrases, grammar, etc. The teachers often provide general knowledge, hoping that the students overcome their unique obstacles by themselves. This, however, rarely works. Learning a language is personal and needs to be customized to address these challenges. I have gone through this process myself, first with English, later Spanish, Chinese, and Portuguese. I know why I am fluent in English and Spanish but I could not master the other two.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My best qualification is my strong desire to work with and teach those who would like to learn.
I received excellent education in Japan. I went to one of the best high schools in the entire nation where about 10% of graduates go to the University of Tokyo, by far the best university in Japan. After I studied at Meiji University, again one of the best universities in Japan, I graduated from the University of Michigan with a distinction honor and received a master's degree from the University of Texas at Austin. While I keep a full-time job in the real business world, I feel very passionate about giving my education back to those who would like to learn my cultural heritage.
