There are times one would sit through class and feel the need for further assistance with a subject. My extensive experience working around children will be a valuable asset I could share for those needing further help with their learning & study habits on particular subjects. Children are the future so it is very important that we help shape them into their full potential.
I believe in the humanistic or person-centered approach with a desire to understanding each personality of a child; knowing their strengths and weaknesses; recognizing that each one is different and unique. One of the most important tenets in working with students of all ages is having a high tolerance and level of patience while balancing discipline. When students develop structure and discipline in the early stages, it becomes ingrained in their lives which would serve them well in their later years.
For children in their formative years, my system is to learn through play using visual tools; introducing new & fun experiences to keep them interested and curious with the goal of opening their young minds to further learning.
When I worked as a Kindergarten assistant teacher, the last 30 minutes of each class was spent devoted to tutoring students to help them clarify areas on subjects they needed more help with. We do not give up on each child until he/she gets it. I also taught basic computer lessons to children aged 4-5.
I worked for over 5 years at Pearson, the world's leading education company which provides educational materials and teaching assessments worldwide. We scored and graded SAT, ACT, Reading and English exams from every state in the nation. On my first year, I exceeded the accepted scoring proficiency of 50% to over 80% which promoted me to Project Supervisor in less than 3 months.
I have a degree in Communications Management with a minor in Public Relations but my family thinks I should have taken Computer courses since I could be a geek.My degree has helped me deal with a variety of people and see things from their perspective and that serves me well with working with students.
Currently, I am working with Kumon, an after-school learning program which helps children instill a love for learning, develop strong study skills and enhance their confidence. I am available for tutoring for the whole day of Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. During Mondays and Thursdays, I am available from 8 am-2: 30 pm and after 8:00 p.m.
Keep in touch with me if you have further questions and I would be happy to hear from you! Thank you. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
