I have been tutoring since college and love it! I currently tutor three mornings a week before school, in which I help the students prepare for tests and work on study skills. I also work on math with both students. I went to school at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and have a degree in Education with a minor in Mathematics. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Every year I have students in my classroom with ADD/ADHD. I have done some things (varying with each student) to help them to focus better. For example, I may put them right in front of me, away from distractions. Some students have done well with fidgets while in class. I have used highlighting strips to help them focus when reading aloud in class.
