Linguistics

I have tutored undergraduate phonology, graduate-level phonology, phonetics for linguistics students, phonetics for speech-language pathology students, phonetics/phonology for actors, phonetics/accent coaching for ESL professionals, International Phonetic Alphabet, phonetic transcription, phonetic awareness, historical linguistics, field methods for linguistics, and more for over four years. I have now exclusively tutored linguistics and closely related subjects (phonology-related topics and phonetics-related topics) for over a year as my primary occupation and dream job! My major in linguistics focused on phonology and phonetics. As a part of my linguistics studies, I conducted original research on the linguistics, phonetics and phonology of Kinyarwanda (Bantu), and I was thrilled to present this work at a national linguistics conference. In college, I was very proud to win a U of MN President's Service Award for my work in establishing peer tutoring for linguistics students -- stepping in to meet the needs of linguistics students who were overwhelmed by linguistics concepts, linguistics jargon, and developing the deeply-focused, unique habits of mind that are necessary to thrive in linguistics classes. I have particularly focused on tutoring phonetics, phonology, the International Phonetic Alphabet, introductory linguistics, historical linguistics, and linguistics paper writing to linguistics graduate students and speech-language pathology graduate students. I have also tutored many undergraduate linguistics students and phonetics students. I have particular expertise in teaching the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) and useful linguistics, phonetics and phonology topics in an accessible way to ESL professionals who speak Korean, Russian, Kinyarwanda, Spanish, Georgian, and Mandarin.

I’ve coached professionals whose native languages include Korean, Russian, Kinyarwanda, Spanish, Georgian, and Mandarin. I also tutor undergraduate theoretical phonology, graduate-level theoretical phonology, and phonetics for linguistics students. Working exclusively on phonology, phonetics, and closely-related topics is my primary occupation and dream job! My degree in linguistics focused on phonology and phonetics. As an undergrad, I was very proud to win a U of MN President's Service Award for my leadership in establishing peer tutoring in linguistics. I have particular expertise in teaching phonetics, phonology, narrow & broad transcription skills, and International Phonetic Alphabet mastery to speech-language pathology graduate students. knowledgeable

It was great working with Elizabeth for my proposal in phonetics. She helped me narrow down my research questions and how use Praat as tool to measure the data I have. She made my work seem much more approachable! I would definitely recommend her to a classmate, and will be contacting her next time I need help.
