Hi, I'm Elizabeth! If you're new here, welcome to Wyzant!

I'm excited to work with you to achieve your goals. If you're concerned about your ability to afford the tutoring you need, please message me and we can talk about financial aid options.
If you've been referred to me or attended one of my workshops, please let me know.

Linguistics students: I'll help you figure out how to write great papers, read tough journal articles, and succeed in classes like: Intro to Linguistics, Science of Language, Phonology 1 & 2, Phonetics, Syntax 1, Historical Linguistics, Field Methods, and more.

Graduate-level linguistics students: I'll assist you in honing your clarity of argumentation, sifting through the literature, and thriving in classes like: Intro to Linguistics, Phonological Theory 1 & 2, Field Methods, Phonetics, phonology seminars, and more.

Non-native English speakers: I'll help you identify which of your vowel and consonant sounds other people are having problems understanding. I'll work with you to develop new pronunciation skills so you can help them understand. Here's a secret: the people who call it "accent reduction" have it upside down! We're actually adding new skills to your repertory so you can shift your accent whenever you choose.

Actors/singers: I offer dialect coaching for performing in any accent or singing in any language. I teach and use the IPA as well as movement-based vowel representations, which we can tailor for your needs. I sing in Irish, French, Spanish, German, and Scots.

LSAT students: I focus specifically on logic games, helping you develop time-saving strategies and efficient notation. For advanced students, I teach techniques for complex games, including foolproof skills for tackling partially ordered set scenarios.

Proofreading/Editing: I offer proofreading for everything from your term paper to your master's thesis, or from your website to your grant proposal. I'll help you edit for clarity of argumentation, tone, and structure.

I look forward to working with you!

knowledgeable

It was great working with Elizabeth for my proposal in phonetics. She helped me narrow down my research questions and how use Praat as tool to measure the data I have. She made my work seem much more approachable! I would definitely recommend her to a classmate, and will be contacting her next time I need help.

An amazing tutor and session

When I first started the session I was having trouble with diphthongs and the schwar. After this session I have a better understanding of it. We went over the vowels and dipthongs transcription on pg 107 in the Small 5th edition textbook. We went over keywords for the vowels. Elizabeth taught me to sing to figure out the difference between the stressed and unstressed schwar which really helps me. I was actually singing in my class when my professor gave us more words to transcribe in class. Thank you Elizabeth for tutoring me.
