My name is Peter Goncharov and I am a recently admitted medical student at the University of Minnesota. I graduated in 2020 with a 3.94 GPA in Neuroscience have achieved a 99% score on the MCAT. I began tutoring two and a half years ago when my Organic Chemistry professor selected me to tutor fellow students in her class, and I received a nominated teaching award through this. During my time in undergrad, I worked as a subject tutor for the university's division one student athletes in courses like general chemistry, biology, physics, and organic chemistry. I later joined the U of MN chemistry department as a Teaching Specialist for Organic Chemistry 1 & 2. I am comfortable tutoring General chemistry (1&2), Organic chemistry (1&2), Physics (1&2), Genetics, Biochemistry, General Biology, as well as the MCAT. I primarily teach undergraduate and high school students (ages 14-20+).

My main goal is trying to break down much of the barriers students face when learning traditionally "hard" courses and show them just how intuitive and, dare I say, fun they are to learn. I love the moment when students who have really struggled with a concept they felt was totally outside their grasp suddenly feel something click in their heads. While I can tailor my teaching style towards a specific student’s needs, I come prepared to sessions with practice problems that can identify what topics students understand or need more practice on. We can also go through questions students may have. I then walk students through the problems while stopping to discuss and ask questions about concepts that may have led to their misunderstanding. I want students to feel like autonomous learners and try not to immediately give the answers, but rather guide them in the right direction, as my ultimate goal is to have students feel confident in their own problem solving abilities.

I recently took the MCAT and achieved a score of 522 (>99%) and have previously completed all the AAMC Full Length exams with the following scores: (FL1: 520, FL2: 523, FL3: 521, FL4: 523) with an 522 avg (>99%). I have extensively tutored topics specifically for the chemistry/biochemistry/physics portions of the exam, as well as biology sections, scoring in the top 99% for Chem/Phys and Bio/Biochem sections.

Super helpful and patient tutor!!

Peter is one of the best tutors I've had! I was taking the second of three ochem classes and it was super rough for me. I'm on the quarter system and there were so many mechanisms and reactions, it was hard for me to keep up. Peter was super patient with me and asked questions throughout each problem to make sure I understood core concepts. I felt more confident going into quizzes after our meetings and definitely recommend him as a tutor :)
