I have always loved working with video, and began producing professional work as early as 2007. Since then I have worked on over 100 projects for a wide variety of individuals, artists, and commercial clients including: Yale University, PBS American Masters, Mount Holyoke College, and Cambridge University Press.

I am passionate about education and committed to an individualized approach to teaching. Shortly after graduating college, I was hired as a regular guest instructor for a film course at Amherst College. Prior to that, as an undergraduate, I was a Teaching Assistant for three film courses, and an assistant instructor for two years at the Creative Media Institute, a summer film program for high school and college students. As an undergraduate, I also created and taught a full semester video production course attended by 12 students.

Before moving to the Twin Cities, I worked at Hampshire College as the Media Alumni Fellow. I served as the primary resource for faculty and students of all skill levels needing media production assistance. In addition to meeting one-on-one, I put together instructional videos and guides for equipment, led workshops, and lectured on color grading and video editing. I am proficient in all major photo and video editing software and have taught courses in many of them. On the technical side of things I built and maintained a 4k broadcast TV studio, managed an audio voiceover booth, and taught camera and broadcast equipment to students and adults.

I am always seeking opportunities to share my knowledge and love of media arts with others. At the moment I'm most interested in narrative and documentary film, audio storytelling, and interactive or experimental installation art. I look forward to meeting with you and working on building your artistic practice!

Great Video Production Tutor!

The video came out great! All said and done the issue was with the graphics card itself not being compatible with the program I was running.

Excellent knowledge base, explains things well.

I had been struggling with how Final Cut Pro X organizes files and had watched a number of videos on the internet without a clear explanation or solution for my problems. All of the videos had information that was missing, and they were not specific enough to address my needs. Within 20 minutes of talking with Ben everything was clear. He understood my issue, is personable, communicates well and saved multiple hours of effort trying to figure things out on my own. I wish I would have called him long before this.

Understands Lightroom and how to organize files fast, and everything about Lightroom.

Ben is helping me organize my files, stored for years, on my hard drive. He's using Lightroom to do it, by date, then by subject or event. He's doing it very fast, and explaining how he's doing it as he goes, and answering all questions. He's also teaching me how to import photos into Lightroom and name them and how to not get into trouble by moving them or renaming them in a way that Lightroom might not recognize how I put them on my hard drive. He's really good at finding things on my computer and making it so Lightroom recognizes them and coordinates with my hard drive. If I were a complete beginner, I'd definitely have Ben help me understand what Lightroom is and how to use it. I get the idea he knows a lot about computers in general. I'd highly recommend him for any computer learning you need to do.

Knowledgable and easy to work with.

I was neck deep in a project that uses Illustrator and After Effects. Ben was able to find a work around to help me accomplish what I had in mind. He also gave me tips as to go about it a different and less destructive way in the future. He will be the first person I reach out to if I am ever stumped with After Effects or any of the Adobe programs in the future. Thanks again Ben.

Exceeded my expectation

Ben was great. He exceeded my expectations. I have been in the media field in all capacities. Now an exec producer and director of broadcast I reached out to Ben to help with some brush up and new techniques on programs used within my field. He is patient, knowledgeable and focused the tutoring session to my immediate needs. He made complicated issues simple and specific. What I thought would take countless hours took less than half. I can’t wait for the next time we meet. He makes the process laid back, fun and insightful. I recommend Ben highly to anyone just beginning to those who want specific instruction in Adobe programs and others. He is also very available and it was easy to find time in my very complicated schedule.
