Hi! My name is Russell and I am a math tutor based out of Minneapolis. I graduated magna cum laude from the University of Minnesota with a degree in both Mathematics and Philosophy. I have been working as a tutor in various capacities since the summer of 2015. My areas of expertise include the ACT, SAT, and all math from middle school topics through multivariable calculus. I have worked with students of all ages both as a tutor and with the University of Minnesota's Youth Programs. Outside of academics, I am an avid musician and I love woodworking my own board games.

As a tutor, I focus on guaranteeing that students will understand mathematical concepts rather than simply being able to carry out memorized procedures. With my degree in Philosophy as well as Mathematics I stand out in terms of communication. I have a deep appreciation for clarity of thought and expression. I am an expert in teasing out specific points of misunderstanding and tackling them on a conceptual level. I also make lots of bad math jokes.

I am flexible with timing and committed to improving mathematical understanding. Contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson!

Discrete Math,

Discrete Math

I graduated magna cum laude from the University of Minnesota with a degree in mathematics. As part of my coursework I took classes in combinatorics, graph theory, and optimization. I have experience in different proof techniques as well as applications of those topics in discrete math.
Logic,

Logic

I received a magna cum laude degree in philosophy from the University of Minnesota. Much of my coursework and specialization within that degree revolved around formal logic. In upper division courses I even touched on non-traditional logic systems. My honors thesis project was a paper applying formal logic to Benardete's paradox.

Very helpful!

He tutored my son in preparation for an Algebra II test. After the session, my son was much more confident about his understanding of the concepts and felt ready for the exam. Russell was patient and used examples that followed the same process taught in his math class. My son asked for his help ongoing.

Professional, Knowledgeable, Great Tutor

I came across Russell's profile and was impressed with his background. I have hired Russell as a tutor now for 4, 2-hour sessions and in that amount of time, I was able to fully understand over 7 sections in our current place in College Level Calculus. He helped me prepare for a test by making sure I understood the concepts and basic steps involved in solving the equations and when he identified area I could improve on or really needed to master in order to be successful he developed and brought examples to our lessons for me to work on. Highlights of our tutoring sessions: -Very knowledgeable -Polite/Friendly -Always on time and flexible with his schedule -Showed a true desire to help me learn and understand what I needed help with (calculus) -Never once got frustrated or seemed like he didn't want to be there. Overall I highly recommend Russell as a tutor to anyone and have nothing poor or bad to say about the tutoring lesson he provided. He also has a very reasonable rate!
