About Drew

My name is Drew and I graduated from the University of Wisconsin La Crosse in 2016. During this time I earned a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Mathematics Education and a coaching concentration. I currently hold a grade 6-12 teaching license in the state of Wisconsin and am pursuing a Master's degree in Minneapolis . As an educator, I love interacting with my students. I try to individualize each lesson I create to each individual learner. This allows to see what style of learning fits them best, and I adapt my teaching style as I see fit. While teaching, I have become capable of making interactive lessons that incorporate technology and relate to real world situations. In the past, I have made daily lesson plans for 2 preps (2 different classes) as well as making lessons for students in block as well as standard classrooms.

While student teaching, I have developed the ability to anticipate what concepts students will student with before they are taught. This allows me to plan my lessons in a way that I avoid many headaches that students experience in the typical 30 student classroom. I have also planned lessons for various students with IEPs (individualized education programs). The multiple field experiences I attended, as well as my 18 weeks of student teaching have made me confident in my mathematics and teaching skills for a variety of subjects. I hope to use this tutoring experience to better my teaching skills as well as helping students develop their own ability and love for math.

While attending undergrad, I retook a algebra and geometry class to freshen up my skills for when I was student teaching. Taking this class again, alongside student teaching allowed to me build upon my mathematical foundation that was established in high school and college. I have also passed the necessary exams on Wyzant for the specified topics.

My favorite part about teaching and tutoring is seeing growth and development that my students experience. I live for the moments when a subject "clicks" for my students and they understand a concept they previously had difficulty with. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I took the ACT twice in high school and got a 28 on the math section. I also had to learn what was on the ACT to be an effective teacher.

Algebra 1

Excelled in algebra in high school, and retook a class in college to better prepare myself for teaching the subject in the classroom.

Elementary Math

I had to take advanced math classes as well as teaching classes at UW La Crosse, which gave me a firm understanding of elementary math.

Drew gave my son clarity working with radicals, using a factor tree and perfect squares to simplify radicals, adding and subtracting them. My Son advised that he got more out of Drew's one hour than he did with the School teacher in 3 days. We would use Drew more, throughout the school year but he is going back to school.
