Hello, I'm Arianna! I have been a cellist for the past 12 years and I am currently a senior undergraduate at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, completing a Bachelor’s of Music in Cello Performance and a minor in English. I plan to graduate summa cum laude in Spring 2018 with the completion of an interdisciplinary senior thesis through the University Honors Program. Most recently, I have been a performing artist for Thursday Musical and the Schubert Club, a section and associate principal cellist for the University of Minnesota Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Mark Russel Smith, and a chamber musician under the rigorous direction of distinguished string, woodwind, and piano faculty at the University of Minnesota School of Music. I have found that my professional and educational experiences have deeply informed the ways I teach my own students.

I teach cello at the City of Lakes Waldorf School in Minneapolis and I have previously worked as a Summer Program Intern for the MacPhail Center for Music, coaching and mentoring students of all ages to excel at their instruments with the purpose of cultivating deep appreciation for music and instrumental expertise. Teaching gives me the opportunity to thoughtfully express what I have learned through years of intensive musical training in ways that are best suited to the goals of each individual student I work with. It is important for me to learn the priorities and intentions of my students in order for me to fully support them with guidance that is tailored to their unique abilities and ever-developing ambitions.

Besides studying music performance and cello, I have specialized in music history, music theory, and sight singing during my time at university, as these disciplines are essential for overall musicianship. I have studied ethnomusicology of eastern cultures, perspectives, and societies, as well as a comprehensive history of western music; my music theory and sight signing training comprises jazz, tonal, and post-tonal music. These historical and theoretical subjects take a more academic approach to the study of music, and I enjoy teaching them to students who wish to understand more about the art of composition, the structure of music itself, and its historical relevance from centuries ago to the present day.

If you are seeking cello lessons and/or specialized support with musical subjects such as music history, music theory, and sight singing, please contact me. I would be happy to work with you!
