About Zhongda

I worked as a teaching assistant for the Chem 2311 course (organic chemistry laboratory) in the chemistry department of UMN. I supervised and instructed undergraduate students in groups of 16–18 (> 100 students total) in the skills and techniques of organic chemistry experiments. Some representative examples include laboratory safety (the most important), IR, NMR, melting point, column chromatography, TLC, ChemDraw software, computational chemistry, acid/base extraction, distillation, Grignard reaction, Diels-Alder reaction, Friedel-Crafts reaction, natural product isolation, catalytic hydrogenation, reduction/oxidation chemistry, polymer synthesis,

I worked as a ChemFoundations section leader / volunteer (UMN). The main responsibility is to lead weekly tutoring sessions to facilitate undergraduate students with fundamentals, methods, and problem-solving skills in the organic chemistry course (Chem 2301/2302, i.e., OChem I and II) in the form of interactive and peer-assisted groups. Additionally, I have been a private organic chemistry tutor for more than 6 students over the past 3-4 years. I provided consistently high quality tutoring service at a reasonable price. Early this year, I served as the reference for one of my students. I wrote a recommendation letter to support his application to the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) at the Mayo Clinic, Minneapolis.

I am currently pursing my Ph.D. degree in organic chemistry at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. I obtained my B.S. degree in chemistry in 2010 from Nankai University, one of the top 5 higher education institutions in China.

I received systematic training in the theory and practice of organic chemistry and organic synthesis, with a focus on methodology development, catalysis, and heterocyclic chemistry. I consider myself as a motivated, detail-oriented, and result-oriented research chemist, and a lifelong learner.
