I am a native Chinese speaker and a former Chinese university lecturer. I worked in a A-level Chinese university as a lecturer for seven years before I started my PhD degree in Learning Technologies in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Minnesota. I have both Mandarin Proficiency Test Certificate, and China's High Education Teacher Certificate, in order to teach in a Chinese university. I can teach you basic Pinyin, character writings, and grammar; I can teach you how to speak simple to complex Chinese sentences; I can teach you write simple and complex essays; I can practice conversations with you in Chinese; and other requests you might have along the way. In addition, I have taught online courses in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in UMN for about three years. As a current doctoral student in the Learning Technologies Program at the University of Minnesota, my research centers on leaners’ online learning engagement, as well as instructors’ online pedagogy development. I am passionate about researching, writing, teaching, and public speaking; I also have diverse hobbies outside of school, like writing poems, playing harp, public speaking, swimming, etc.
I believe learning is a transformative and life-long process, and I want to help my students become self-directed, reflective, confident, and perseverant learners. Particularly, based on my English learning experience, learning a new language needs passion, perseverance, and grit. I have my own methods to make language learning fun and rewarding. In general, reading, writing, communicating with your friends, and speaking in public are all effective ways to improve our language skills. Moreover, improving learners' positive mental status, such as cultivating perseverance, dealing with perfectionism, is also very important lessons to learn based on my personal language learning experiences. I hope learning a second (or third) language can not only help you gain a practical skill, but also help you gain important personal attributes, like confidence, perseverance, and grit. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about my teaching style, methods, and schedules. Let's make language learning fun and rewarding together! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
