I graduated from the University of St. Thomas with a degree in English, and have always loved reading. I taught ESL for two years, before working for a private education company focusing on intensive intervention. I began as a 1:1 Instructor, and later became a Consultant, and then an Assistant Center Director at one of the companies learning centers. After a few years I became an Education Consultant, coaching public school teachers across the country. Additionally, I have worked as a tutor for the past seven years. I would love to help make learning easier and more fun for you or your child!
I am an outstanding English tutor because I am truly passionate about reading, reading comprehension, and writing! I use research based, results driven methods, and teach students how to learn, rather than simply teaching material. I am friendly and empathetic, but also direct and efficient. I provide intensive instruction, aimed at making significant gains in a short period of time, while teaching lasting study skills.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. I am very familiar with Common Core, as I coached public school teachers for several years. I am familiar with standards and goals, and am able to interrupt Common Core based grade reporting. I am experienced in preparing students to enter the next grade level using Common Core standards.
I have worked with Elementary students grades K-6th for over seven years, as a classroom teacher, at a learning center, as an Education Consultant in the public school system, and as a private tutor. I am very familiar with Elementary school curriculums, and Common Core standards. I believe that the earlier a learning gap can be closed, the more success a student will have in his or her academic career. I really enjoy working with Elementary age students.
For the last five years, I have been teaching students study skills both at a learning center, and private tutoring. Students I have worked with have been able to improve their test scores and overall grades by as much as 35%. I use a combination of methods, including visualization, organization, time management, and a "checks and balances" system. I teach study skills that help students make significant gains while achieving independence.
