About Megan

Hi, there, my name is Megan and I can't wait to meet you! I'm personable, upbeat, and even a little silly at times. My teaching style is encouraging, communicative, and fun. I've just started teaching private lessons this year, but have previously been a coach, substitute teacher, and in my day to day job I work with and advise college students. I love helping my students see the big picture, break down the necessary steps that will lead them towards success, and help them understand things in a way that makes sense to them.

I went to the College of Wooster (OH) and earned a degree in History in 2008. I also attended George Washington University and earned a masters in Education & Human Development (concentration in Higher Education Administration) in 2014.

I look forward to helping you reach your goals!

I have a passion for reading and writing. I enjoy bringing the words on the page to life and helping students to harness their abilities and discover that reading books and writing essays can be rewarding and fun!

I have worked at four different institutions of higher education. I have a masters degree in higher education administration. I know and understands colleges and universities. My knowledge combined with my belief that finding the right fit for the student both academically, socially, and values-wise is a valuable asset to any student. As an engaged and involved student myself in undergrad, and now as someone who advises and oversees programming at a school for my full time job, I am uniquely positioned to help a student discover the right school for them. I am also familiar with the college application process and can assist students and families as they complete college applications.

I have a bachelors degree in history and so not only am I academically trained as a historian but I am also personally passionate about the subject. History is alive to me and I thoroughly enjoy conveying that to students, helping them to connect dates, concepts, and ultimately giving them the tools to analyze history for themselves.

I am equipped to help a student work through material, study for a test (AP included), write large and extensive research papers, and complete projects.

I hope you'll contact me to discuss your academic goals and needs. I am eager to establish a relationship with a few students and their families so that I might help them succeed this school year and beyond!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

American History

I am passionate about history. All through high school I gravitated towards the subject, taking both AP European and AP American history. I was also deeply involved with History Day (a national competition, similar to a science fair) during high school. In college I majored in history and took classes on everything from the American West, to Tudor Stuart England, to Men in America. I wrote a 103 pages thesis on American soldiers in Britain during WWII, during which I was given a grant to conduct research in London at the Imperial War Museum.

I love talking about, analyzing, and writing about history. I want to help students discover and learn why history is such an informative and important subject, relevant to their lives today.

College Counseling

I have a masters degree in education and human development with a concentration in higher education administration. I work full time at a University, this is the third institution I have worked at. Thus I not only studied universities and colleges for my advance degree but also work at one, making me uniquely positioned to provide advice and counseling to students searching for and applying to schools.

European History

I have a bachelor's degree in history. I am passionate about the subject and even completed a thesis my senior year that was 103 pages long in the subject of World War II. The research for my thesis took me to London where I researched at the Imperial War museum. In high school I took AP European history and received a 4/5 on the AP test.

Lacrosse

I have played lacrosse since 2001- four years in high school, four in college (at the Division III level), and then several post college. I have also coached for about four years, every age from 1st grade through collegiate. I was an Assistant Coach at a Division III program for one year and also the Head Coach for a high school program for one year.

Writing

I majored in history in undergrad and also have a master's degree. I have written many papers and essays in my academic career. Including a 103 page thesis my senior year of college. I enjoy helping students hone their writing, edit their content, and can help make the writing process manageable and even fun!

Great for College — I knew that I wasn't going to be able to help my daughter Emma with all the information and essays she needed. Megan has been spot on with her guidance, Emma is doing well with her applications. Thank you so much couldn't have done it without you. ...
