About Patrick

The reason I love to tutor students is because I have had phenomenal experiences with my tutors in the past. I know the feeling of having a topic be crystal clear after working with a challenging, motivational tutor. I have been tutoring science topics for five years, and have experience with students ranging from ages 14-45. Topics such as biology, anatomy, or genetics can be very dense at first, and I understand the value of being able to explain concepts in multiple ways from different angles. I make every lesson personalized, and I always look for feedback on how my teaching can be improved, but also what I am doing well and should continue.

Science is fun! Almost like an onion, different science topics can always be unwrapped in more and more detail. Over my five years of tutoring experience, I have developed a sense of how deep to dive on a particular topic in order to help a student best understand the concepts. Sometimes delving more deeply into a topic is just what a student needs to understand and succeed.

I love to teach, and I am motivated by the successes and improvements of my students. I am willing to meet in any convenient locations, and would love to help you succeed in the sciences!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

The ACT math section is a fast paced, stimulating section of the test. 60 questions in 60 minutes is a lot! I firmly believe that guided practice is the best method of learning how to master this section. I've been tutoring in this topic for several years, and I know how to help guide students through difficult concepts and questions.

ACT Science

The ACT science portion is often times the most difficult for students. The section is very fast (40 questions, 35 minutes) and is divided into three sections: data representation, research summaries, and conflicting viewpoints. Often times previous science knowledge is not an indicator of ACT science success, because the portion is about scientific reading and reasoning, not base scientific knowledge.

I specialize in communicating science research and writing to the public, and I understand how difficult reading studies and interpreting figures can be. I can teach students how to quickly and efficiently interpret graphs, and how to pull out the necessary information, while leaving extraneous information out.

Biology

I fell in love with biology in high school, and it has since grown to a passion I am dedicating my life to. The subject is so broad and far reaching, that while fascinating and exciting, I know it can be intimidating and unnerving. I have five years of tutoring all ages in biology and biology test prep, and I'd love to help students delve deeper into the topic.

Genetics

I am currently pursuing my BS in Genetics, Cellular Biology and Development, so the majority of my coursework and educational background deals with genetics. I am also a teaching assistant for a introductory genetics class, so I have experience teaching and troubleshooting the topic with students. I have access to materials concerning the subject as well, so I can help students to better understand the topic and it's intricacies.

MCAT

I recently took the MCAT, and finally got my score back! I scored in the 90th percentile, and have a very good handle on all of the information, and how to go about digesting it all.

I've been tutoring a lot for the ACT recently, so I've also got a very good handle on test-specific tutoring.

Awesome

To all, My daughter was nervous about starting Chemistry. Prior to starting I contacted Patrick. I was amazed at how fast he got back to me. Not only did he contact me right away, once we set up a time for him to meet with my daughter he was always in touch with us if something changed. Ok, enough of the build up! My daughters experience with Patrick was great. She left the session smiling. Just o
