St. Cloud State University (Travel and Tourism)
Minnesota State University - Mankato (Master's)
Hi, my name is Tanya and I want to be your tutor! I graduated from St. Cloud State University in May 2013 with a Bachelor's degree in Travel and Tourism. My passion has always been with children, so in January 2015 I decided to return to graduate school at Minnesota State University - Mankato at their extended Edina campus for Special Education. My license will be in Specific Learning Disabilities; students in this category generally need extra help in reading and math, so I am very enthusiastic about tutoring students in those areas.
I currently work as an Education Assistant at a 4-8 middle school called FAIR School in Crystal. I work one-on-one with different students throughout the day with varying ability levels. Some of the disabilities I am experienced with are Autism, Specific Learning Disabilities, and ADHD just to name a few. I also work in a 4th grade classroom as a general assistant where I circulate throughout the room and tutor students one-on-one as needed. I love helping students reach their full potential and believe that I am able to make great connections with kids to give them confidence in their work and abilities. I can't wait to be a Special Ed teacher and am looking to use my tutoring skills as a tutor this summer and beyond!
I am a Native English speaker. English has always been my strongest subject throughout all of my schooling. I love to read and do so often! I am also attending graduate school at Minnesota State University - Mankato in Edina where I am studying to become a Special Ed teacher licensed in Specific Learning Disabilities. I am in the process of completing a course all about literacy and teaching and improving literacy in students who struggle in this area. I currently help multiple students with literacy at FAIR School in Crystal as an Education Assistant; I work one-on-one with students on phonics, reading practice, writing, story concepts (story web, graphic organizers, context clues, etc.), and more!
I currently work at a 4th-8th grade middle school where I work exclusively as an Education Assistant with 4th-6th graders. I assist students one-on-one in a 4th grade classroom with elementary math on a daily basis. I am also attending graduate school at Minnesota State University - Mankato in Edina studying to become a Special Ed teacher licensed in Specific Learning Disabilities. I have taken a course on different math strategies and concepts.
I am a caring and hardworking person who has a passion for teaching and tutoring! I cannot wait to become a Special Ed teacher and would love to tutor you while I work toward this goal. I am patient, but will never give up on you. My future teaching philosophy is that I will make every student a success story, and I'd like to hold that philosophy in my tutoring as well! Please contact me with any questions you have so we can discuss the possibility of me being your tutor. I can help! Hi, my name is Tanya and I want to be your tutor! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am currently attending graduate school at Minnesota State University - Mankato in Edina for Special Education to obtain a license in Specific Learning Disabilities. I have taken multiple courses that apply directly to teaching methods and strategies at the elementary level as required by the State of Minnesota to be a qualified licensed teacher.
