I have taught Spanish at all levels from pre-k to adults. In school settings, I have taught high school and middle school Spanish. I have tutored extensively with students who are accelerated as well as struggling. I enjoy tutoring because the focus is on what that student needs to improve his or her skills. All students have strengths and weaknesses, and identifying them in order to focus learning is an important part of the tutor's role.
Sometimes the student needs the information explained a different way. Other times, he or she needs help with homework, preparing a presentation or for a test. Others need guidance and focus in reading or remembering vocabulary. I believe the tutor needs to figure out what the individual student needs and how to get him or her there. Motivation comes from success in the area of study. The tutor should instill confidence in the learners by giving them the tools they need to be successful going forward.
I look forward to meeting with you and helping you feel comfortable and be more successful in your Spanish learning. Please contact me and we will work together to achieve your goals. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
