My name is James and am looking forward to helping you achieve your academic goals. I am a MN licensed 7-12 social studies teacher. I was a full-time social studies teacher at P.E.A.S.E Academy in Minneapolis for 7.5 years (2007-2015). Currently, I am working as a librarian and also as the Lead Tutor for a local public library. Before my teaching career, I worked in the healthcare industry as a manager at Omnicare Pharmacy in Crystal. I have a B.A. degree from the University of St. Thomas in History and a Master's degree in Library Science from Dominican University. I am well-versed in a number of subject areas including all social studies subjects, math up to precalculus and language arts.
I know I can help. I am a very creative teacher who will listen to students and treat them with respect. I will find ways to use a student's individual interests to help them understand academic concepts and strategies. I have been told by school principals and fellow teachers that I am good-humored, creative, patient and fair. I believe the key to good tutoring is the student doing the work with assistance and explanation from me. "Show me and I will remember, let me do and I will understand."
Please email me to schedule an initial half hour meeting (at no charge) to discuss academic goals and just get to know each other. We can meet at a coffee shop or library. I look forward to working with you.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
