About Brad

Math, my specialty, is a passion for me, with forty years of engineering and business applications experience. Sharing my passion with you to help you achieve success is my goal. Each student has unique needs -- your guidance in setting your personal goals allows me to target the best use of our time together.

Students come from all backgrounds, from middle and high school students through adult learners. There is no minimum or maximum age for learning -- it is lifelong, and I would very much like to share my passion for learning with you.

While algebra, geometry, and trigonometry are my focus areas, I am open to discussing the application of math to selected areas of science, engineering, and finance.

In terms of education, I have a bachelors degree in electrical engineering from Florida Atlantic University, and also many graduate level credits from the University of Minnesota in math and communications, which I have applied to data analysis and wireless communications in my business career. I have also extensively applied my math skills to analysis of financial markets. In my spare time, I enjoy working on old cars, wooden boats, canoeing, traveling, and gardening.

My time is flexible and sessions may be held in my home, your home, or any other convenient space suitable for the tutoring process. I do maintain a 24-hour cancellation policy, but also understand that unavoidable events sometimes arise. I very much look forward to working with you.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Algebra has been continuously used throughout my engineering career, for both technical efforts and business applications. As an electrical engineering student, algebra was extensively used. I have also done some tutoring of high school students while in college, as well as helped some of my college professors to teach an occasional class. Regarding content, I am able to supplement an existing program which the student is already participating in, or help to develop new lessons where more general support is requested. You are my guide.

Algebra 2

Algebra has been continuously used throughout my engineering career, for both technical efforts and business applications. As an electrical engineering student, algebra was extensively used. Cooking

My focus here is on basic cooking, e. g. common breakfast fare like eggs and pancakes, and dinner and lunch dishes like sandwiches, stews, baked chicken, pizza, roasted vegetables, salads, desserts. Simple hearty meals with the new cook in mind. I have forty years experience cooking for my family of five, and all of them have survived. Mostly American tastes, but we can also explore Indian, Italian, Middle Eastern, and bits of French should you choose. For the adventurous, we can talk baking bread from scratch and preparing made-ahead meal packets for camping trips.

Geometry

Geometry has been a recurring theme throughout my electrical engineering career technical efforts. My career included significant work with both electronic communications systems and also physical movement systems. Geometry was used extensively in the design and development of these systems, with much time spent on the mathematical modeling and simulation of systems. Beyond career interests, geometry is also a personal historical interest, as it is one the first ancient developments in mathematics, dating back thousands of years. While in college, I tutored some high school students, as well as helped some of my college professors to teach an occasional class. Regarding content, I am able to supplement an existing program which the student is already participating in, or help to develop new lessons where more general support is requested. Prealgebra

Algebra has been continuously used throughout my engineering career, for both technical efforts and business applications. As an electrical engineering student, algebra was extensively used. I have also done some tutoring of local high school students while in college, as well as helped some of my college professors to teach an occasional class. Regarding content, I am able to supplement an existing program which the student is already participating in, or help to develop lessons where more general support is requested. You are my guide.

Trigonometry

Trigonometry is one of the foundation elements of my electrical engineering career technical efforts. Almost all signals in my communications focus area are described in terms of trigonometric functions. Further, most systems that I have worked on involved mathematical modeling and simulations of physical systems, with trigonometric principles always in play. While in college, I tutored some high school students, as well as helped some of my college professors to teach an occasional class. Regarding content, I am able to supplement an existing program which the student is already participating in, or help to develop new lessons where more general support is requested. Great job!

Brad was very patient with our daughter, and explained theory behind the required elements which was very helpful to our daughter. He made the difference with her passing (and even getting a good grade in) Algebra II, MUCH APPRECIATED.
