Learning should be fun as well as measurable. I was a French major in college, was the president of our college French club, and I travel to France regularly. I have tutored American students as well as French students (learning English). I have maintained a relationship with my French host family since 1989, the bicentennial year of the French Republic. I have a native-sounding French accent and I will help you improve your French accent. If you are enrolled in a French class in school, we should together be able to improve your chances of getting a better grade. One caveat is that I am better with conversational (both spoken and written) French than with classical French literature. If you are going to be travelling in France, I can help prepare you for the best experience possible! Vive la France! Vive les francophones!
I studied voice throughout high school and college, and sang with the prestigious Concordia Choir. If you are interested in learning the classical diction taught at the universities, I am trained in French, German, and Italian diction and music theory. I sang with the Concordia Choir in Norway with the King of Norway as our audience. I have also sung with the highly-praised local choir, Magnum Chorum, and have sung on stage at Lincoln Center with the Distinguished Concerts International New York. For ten years I served as a church cantor (soloist), and I regularly perform solo/duet engagements for weddings and other events. I have tutored voice students and accompanied them on piano for voice juries, and I enjoy working with students in any voice range and age. I own a baby grand piano, so students can feel confident that they are studying with someone who is passionate about music. As I Learning should be fun as well as measurable. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I was a French major in college at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, which is widely known for its foreign language villages. I was president and vice president of French Club in college and occasionally served as a volunteer French Language Village counselor. I lived in France for nearly a year, attending the Institute de Gestion, Universite de Rennes, Bretagne where I took courses taught in French alongside French native students. I have maintained a relationship with my 1989 summer homestay family in Normandy and visit them regularly. French is a passion of mine, and I have enjoyed tutoring students in the past. I have a near-perfect French accent and advanced skills in writing French.
I studied music theory in college and regularly play piano and sing in community choirs. I can teach the basics of major, minor, and diminished scales, intervals, and chords, as well as key signatures, modes, and rhythm. I have a baby grand piano in my home, along with a library of many types of sheet music.
After receiving an A+ grade in a college Logic course, I have spent the past 24 years in a career that has centered around computer programming and database querying, for both of which logic serves a critical role. I have a strong ability to explain logic in terms that anyone can understand, and can demonstrate how logic is applied both academically as well as in our everyday lives. I can help explain basic syllogisms, fallacies, and non-sequiturs. These often appear on college entrance exams such as the GMAT which I have taken twice.
I have 15 years of expert experience in all aspects of Microsoft Access development. I can help you understand the basic graphical user interface as well as the Structured Query Language (SQL) for creating queries. Together, you will learn or review the types of query JOINs such as inner, outer, and left joins. I can help with everything from basic macros to complex VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) procedures that can be used to create customized forms and applications. You can also learn about ODBC connectivity to outside system data warehouses, and how to use various connection strings.
As a business user of Microsoft Outlook for 8 years within a Technology department, I can help the student quickly become comfortable with not only the basics of sending and receiving emails, but also with settings, preferences, rules for auto-moving incoming emails to custom folders, and auto-formatting for easy categorization in the inbox or other folders. Additionally, I am versed in out-of-office and contacts functionality, as well as task tracking including assigning tasks to other individuals or groups. I have scheduled countless meetings in Outlook and can guide the student through conference room reservations and other functions. MS Outlook is a fairly easy application to learn, so the student would only need one to three lessons.
I have been a pianist for 35 years. My grandmother was a concert pianist and piano teacher, and I will pass along her teaching style to the student. You will learn various finger dexterity exercises, ideal scale fingerings, correct body posture and hand positions, and practice sight reading as well as preparing mucial pieces appropriate for the student. Learning will be fun and measurable.
I studied voice throughout high school and college, and sang with the prestigious Concordia Choir (Moorhead, Minnesota). I am trained in French, German, Italian, and Latin diction and advanced music theory. I have also sung with the highly-praised local choir, Magnum Chorum, which has a very competitive audition process. One of my upcoming engagements includes singing at Lincoln Center this May as an alumni singer with the Concordia Choir. For ten years I served as a church cantor (soloist), and I regularly perform solo and duet paid engagements for weddings and other events. I have tutored voice students and accompanied them on piano for voice juries, and I enjoy working with students in any voice range and any age. I believe the learning process and environment should be fun and enjoyable, but I also strive to recognize results so that the student feels the lessons were well worth the investment. I own a baby grand piano so students can feel confident that they are studying with someone who is passionate about music.
