You CAN get results while having fun! I'll help take the pressure off, while coaching you to make serious improvement in your skills and understanding where you need it. My specialties are in math and science, which I studied as an undergrad in the physics program at St. Mary's University in Winona, MN. I've been tutoring these subjects for years and know some serious shortcuts in troubleshooting them!
My schedule is flexible, and I'm happy to travel to any convenient meeting place for you.
-All math subjects, basic arithmetic up through calculus
-Basic science, college physics, astronomy
-ACT and SAT prep
-Reading, writing (technical and creative), grammar
-Music and drumming (all levels through professional)
One of my main strengths as a tutor is great patience (I meditate a lot). I don't get frustrated with people, and am great at helping you calm down if you're feeling anxious during a study session!
I like to have fun while studying, so I will help you stay enthusiastic. Most of my clients attest that I have a lot of energy and excitement, and that it tends to be contagious. The reason I have this attitude is that I know improvement is a science and a sport: it's predictable! The right methods are pretty much guaranteed to work, and I've got plenty of them up my sleeve. It makes me really really happy seeing people improve and overcome their obstacles, and they're usually pretty happy about it too! Students who study or train with me usually make really rapid progress.
Another of my strengths is that I have a great communication style. I use clear language and can relate with almost anyone... I am friendly, non-judgmental, and sympathetic to your academic pain. I often speak in metaphors, which helps people bring abstract concepts into a real and colorful form... like visualizing the actual chocolate chip cookie instead of just the recipe for it. This helps students with math especially, which as a subject contains lots of abstract concepts.
I work with all ages and learning styles, and will help you see rapid results, in a pain-free process. You might even learn to enjoy the subjects that are causing you trouble now!
Besides being a tutor, I'm also a professional drum instructor and an author. I have three published method-books on drum instruction... I wrote these while employed as a private instructor at the Colorado Music Institute, one of the largest private lesson schools in the world. I've had hundreds of students over the ten years I was there, and learned how to be an extremely effective coach in the learning process, not just for music but for all learning in general.
I also have public speaking experience, delivering several drum instruction clinics on 'timing skills', and also guest speaking on 'music education and technology' at the huge South By Southwest Festival in Austin TX, in 2011.
I'm here to help! Let's work together. You CAN get results while having fun! I'll help take the pressure off, while coaching you to make serious improvement in your skills and understanding where you need it. My specialties are in math and science, which I studied as an
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
