Concordia College, Moorhead, MN (Spanish Education)
I am a licensed and experienced K-12 Spanish Teacher. I studied Spanish Education and Child and Family Studies at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN and studied abroad in Segovia, Spain for one semester. After graduation, I taught English as a visiting professor at a university in Mexico City. I then spent four years teaching 8th World Language in a suburban middle school and one year teaching 3rd-6th grade Spanish at an elementary school in Minneapolis. I am currently subbing in various districts, teaching adult Spanish classes, and tutoring students pre-school aged through high school. I can help with studying grammatical concepts, vocabulary, practice speaking, reading or just playing in Spanish!
I am also an avid pianist and have much experience accompanying choirs, soloists and other groups. I played piano for the pit orchestra in four different musicals while teaching for St. Francis District. Although I am not a music major, my background in piano (which includes fourteen years of formal instruction) along with my teaching experience make me a great candidate for teaching piano lessons. Jennifer has a natural ability to work with kids. She is so patient and organized in her approach. She really tries to make lessons very interesting to keep the kids involved. She always greets the kids with a beautiful smile and makes learning fun.
She's great! Very knowledgeable and friendly. Our 13 year old boy actually doesn't mind doing extra Spanish because she makes it fun. That is saying a lot!!
Jennifer is patient, reliable and well prepared. She brings many tools with her to each session - keeping things interesting while teaching my child Spanish!
Jennifer was worth every penny, as she helped to raise our high school daughter's Spanish II spring grade from a "F" to a "C" in seven tutor sessions. I wished that we had decided to line up Jennifer sooner, and had fourteen sessions. Greatly appreciated.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am an avid pianist. I took lessons for fourteen years. I won the MMTA contest multiple years in middle and high school and participated in the MMTA concerts. I frequently accompany various choirs, soloists and other groups. I have also played piano in the pit orchestra of four different musicals. Although I did not major in music, I am a licensed and experienced K-12 Spanish teacher and can merge these two areas of my life together to be a successful piano teacher.
