About Drea

Bio

I have tutored math and science since college. For 4 years, my part time job in college was a teaching assistant at University of Minnesota in General College's Math Center. Also, I worked in Math Special Projects and the Astronomy department as a teaching assistant. After graduation, I was employed as a teacher at Sylvan Learning Center. This was a great opportunity until I decided to start my own tutor business. Tutoring has been my part time business for 10 years.

I have tutored math and science since college. For 4 years, my part time job in college was a teaching assistant at University of Minnesota in General College's Math Center. This was a great opportunity until I decided to start my own tutor business. Tutoring has been my part time business for 10 years.

My philosophy is all children can learn math. Most students think math is hard and just don't try. Math can be challenging, but most students after a little encouragement are successful. My role as a tutor is to demonstrate different approaches to problems and praise the student to success.

I have helped students in advanced math and science classes ranging from algebra, statistics, and calculus to AP physics and chemistry. However, many of my students have struggled in basic math. If a student is willing to accept my help, the student improves. I am proud that often I help one student in a family, and I am asked a year or two later to come help a younger sibling. My greatest reward is seeing a student go from hating math to understanding difficult concepts.

I look forward to helping your student. Thank you!

Calculus,

Calculus

I have a minor in math with 3 years of calculus courses. The classes covered limits, derivatives, integrals, differential equations, and sequence/series. I have tutored high school and college students in calculus courses. My students have needed help with both single variable and multi-variable calculus classes. Most students need help understanding the different rules (chain rule, product rule, quotient rule) and the relationship between limits, derivatives, and integrals.
Chemistry,

Biostatistics,

Biostatistics

I have taken a graduate level biostatistics class in the school of public health at the University of Minnesota. The course covered z-scores, t-tests, hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, and chi tests. Other topics covered were normal distribution, taking a sample of a population, probability of unison and intersections events, and conditional probability.

I took a year of organic chemistry for my minor in chemistry. There were three courses plus three lab courses. Topics covered were naming molecules, creating reactions, stereochemistry, synthesis and reaction with of alkenes, alkynes, alcohols, and ethers. We also covered topics in biochemistry (proteins, lipids, carbohydrates and nucleus acids). I have tutored several students in high school and college level chemistry courses. Most had a chapter on organic chemistry.

Amazing physics tutor!!!!

My daughter has had several tutoring sessions with Drea for Ap physics and we cannot day enough about her. She is knowledgeable and patient, and is excellent at breaking down concepts in a way that is easy to understand. We are so grateful to have found her and for all of her help and support.

Very helpful and responsive

Drea was able to step in at the last minute to help my daughter prepare for her college chemistry final during distance learning; a difficult environment for many students. She was the only person I could find who was able to tutor her in both bio and organic chemistry, and I looked at many! She was very helpful and knowledgeable. My daughter really appreciated her ability to explain things clearly. Would definitely recommend and thanks Drea for helping us out of a tight spot!

knowledgeable

She teaches my daughter geometry for a sophomore class. She likes her and my daughter is improving in the class. We will keep using her for as long as she needs her help

Very knowledgable, kind, and patient tutor.

Drea is amazing!! During my first tutoring session with her, she was willing to spend an extra hour with me and help me out with my chemistry homework, seeing as I definitely needed the help. Keep in mind that I also reached out to her VERY short notice and she got back to me so quickly that I was able to get in the same day. She was also very kind and patient with me, she never once was frustrated and took her time explaining the problems to me. She simplified a lot of concepts and was able to explain all of the things in my Intro to Chemistry class that I could not understand. I would highly recommend her to anyone who is struggling with chemistry, she really helps you with the problems and outlines what you need more work on. Because of Drea, I feel much more confident for my chemistry test than I was before our session. Thank you!!!

Incredibly helpful

My daughter improved her grade from an F to a B. I cannot be thank fil enough to Drea. It’s amazing what a session can accomplish within just one day of tutoring in one hour!

Flexible, patient, and knowledgeable

Drea very effectively helped me get a lot of Algebra exercises done in a short time while teaching me the concepts. She replied quickly, too, which was key to me because I needed help on the same day. I feel more confident that I am capable of learning not only because of what we accomplished together but also because I was able to follow along my professor’s lecture that covered new material. I was falling behind in my College Algebra class and was afraid I would either fail the class or withdraw from it but that doesn’t cross my mind anymore. Best investment I made. Private tutoring can be expensive for a student but failing or withdrawing would cost me so much more in time and money. I am now pretty much caught up with the material and won’t think twice in getting another tutoring session with Drea if I ever need help with math again. Thank you so much for what you do, Drea!!

Great Tutor

Physics is proving to be extremely difficult for me as an adult learner going back. But my tutor made me feel at ease. Drea was patient and very knowledgeable of the subject. Already booked my next session!!
