My experience includes teaching for 22+ years. I have taught early childhood, parent education, first grade, and kindergarten, with the majority of my classroom experience involving kindergarten. As an elementary tutor, I am experienced with students in kindergarten through 6th grade - mainly in reading/writing/English/math/homework assistance. I am licensed in the following areas: Kindergarten - 6th grade; Early Childhood (Birth - PreK); and Parent Education. In addition, I have a strong background in writing, English, and grammar. For 14+ years, I have helped high school and college students as well as worked with adults in writing, including editing their work in the areas of spelling and grammar.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a licensed elementary teacher. I have over 22 years of experience. Most of my experience has been with kindergarten, though I have also taught first grade and early childhood. I consider reading and math to be the areas in which I have had the most training and experience, but I have taught all subject areas. I am also very experienced in the social-emotional area of child development.
Phonics involves associating the sound with the symbol, i.e., the sound with the alphabet letter. Mastering phonics is a precursor for students to learn to decode words. My experience includes teaching first grade for two years and kindergarten for 17 years - all of these years included implementing instruction in the area of phonics.
I have experience assisting high school, college, and graduate students with editing their writing. I will proofread your work and help you correct grammar. In addition, I will advise you when a different word choice may be beneficial. High school AP Comp students: I will help you take your writing to the next level.

For a student to be successful, s/he needs to develop an organized way to organize schoolwork, write papers, study for tests, etc. Many students benefit from a color coded system, e.g., using different colored folders for different subjects. In addition, a daily calendar or planner will help students map out when assignments are due and when tests are scheduled. Then students should prioritize what-to-do-when. When studying for tests, many students do not realize that some very basic skills would help them, e.g., taking notes, using flashcards, taking practice tests via a computer/the internet, etc. If a person orally asks the students questions, that additional modality (auditory) will also help as the student will then respond out loud and "hear" the answer. Applying good study skills will help students succeed.
A good writer is able to write for various purposes. At times, one may write a report to tell about a certain subject. In this instance, the writer needs to know how to gather information through various means and then organize the information in a written format; in addition, the writer needs to include an introduction and conclusion. At other times, the writer may engage in creative writing, the type in which the writer's "voice" should be apparent. Some writers write to compare and contrast. In some instances, the writer may need to include certain citations, a table of contents, etc. All writers should be aware of the appropriate use of grammar; in addition, the correct use of punctuation is a key skill for writers to possess.
