I am a licensed Professional Engineer with a degree from Cornell University, and have been working as a structural engineer for over 25 years. I recently ventured into math tutoring on a part-time basis, and have found it to be a totally enjoyable and rewarding experience. I am happy to assist students of any grade level, and give them an edge by patiently helping them develop and improve their math skills while working through homework assignments together. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
True understanding of the concepts of algebra and proficiency in solving algebraic problems are necessary to excel in the higher level math classes. I will patiently work with you at an individualized pace as we develop your solid foundation in Algebra I together.
I believe that using games and specific word problems that are relevant to the interests of the student, as a supplement to traditional teaching methods, is an effective way to help children with the mastery of elementary math.
