I'm an experienced tutor, and have many excellent references to show for it. The subjects I typically tutor are Geometry, Algebra, Precalculus, Chemistry, and Physics, as well as ACT and SAT prep. I try not to go overboard and attempt to tutor every subject and test prep out there, but to specialize in the areas listed above and do them well.
I am a licensed Minnesota educator, and work strictly as an individual tutor. Don't get pulled in by the tutoring factories that use a canned curriculum when your child actually needs a specialized approach. I do not provide any type of service where I do take-home tests or term papers for a student: I teach.
I also worked as a scientist for 20 years before my teaching career, and so have real world experience with the math and sciences, as well as graduate degrees in science and education. I am experienced at working with gifted students, homeschooled students, and students with various learning disabilities. I typically travel to a library in your direction. I do not charge for travel time, mileage, or any prep time. My fee is strictly for face-to-face tutoring time.
Will is an excellent tutor. He is willing to work with your busy schedule and very patient and thorough in his teaching.
Will was able to help my son James with some basic concepts and problem solving skills in AP Physics. Looking forward to continued help throughout the school year.
Will taught me Unit 9 and helped me with a packet, quizzes, and a test. He is excellent! Will was patient and really explained things well. I enjoyed working with him and thank him for his special help.
Helped me review for a test that week. Seemed really knowledgeable and organized. Will be seeing him to help me prepare for the final exam.
My son had a great first lesson and felt like the information was easier to understand with Will's instruction, thanks!!
I am pleased with our first meeting with Will. From my viewpoint, my son seemed engaged. On the car ride home, he said Will was very knowledgeable about Chemistry.
Will helped remind me of things that I had learned from high school mathematics that unfortunately I had forgotten over the summer. He also opened my mind up to new ways of looking at the problems, something that my regular in-school math teacher just could not do.
I also liked that he was willing to admit when it did not make sense to figure out a problem on the ACT, if its easier to just guess and check, do it!
Prompt response. Knew exactly what my son needed for instruction. Answered questions with depth, did not just scratch the surface.
Will T. has been a great tutor for our daughter. He enjoys teaching math so much and is very good at understanding her needs. We do a session that is two hours long and he is very successful at keeping her going for the entire time. She is thirteen so spending that much time studying is very new to her. We are very happy with our selection.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
