Ni Hao! My name is Peng and I am committed to ensuring you or your student/child achieve the goals you are looking to accomplish in learning Mandarin. Every student is different, and I tailor my tutoring styles to the particular needs of each individual student. Before we even start the first tutoring session, I will work with the Parent/Guardian and/or the student to see how they feel they learn best. After each lesson you will receive e-mailed feedback on how the student did in the lesson and what they need to work on before the next session to ensure they are on the right path to achieving their goals. From the Beginner to the Advanced Student, I can help.
In my career, I have always taken the time to observe my students and to learn who they are. That knowledge has helped me to help them become better students and even better human beings filled with a passion for life and learning. I greatly enjoy bringing cultural experiences and promoting a global perspective to students by using thoughtful questions and creating an equal environment of communication. All while offering the student lots of time to practice their Mandarin language skills.
About Me: I am a Native Chinese Citizen, currently living the Twin Cities area. I have been teaching Mandarin for over 4 years in a wide variety of settings. In addition to tutoring privately, I have taught Kindergarten in Beijing, a Confuscius Classroom in Thailand (Grade 10-adult language instruction), assisted in online Mandarin learning for high schoolers in 2013, and am currently working at a K-8 Private School here in the metropolitan area. In 2011, I won the "Excellent Teacher-Adviser Award" from Chiangmai Royal Normal University in Thailand. I have a Master's in Education, and have held a CA state Mandarin subject teaching credential K-12 since April, 2, 2013. Ni Hao! I need to learn Mandarin to converse with some business associates over in China. Not wanting or even having the time to take a traditional class I sought out various tutor sites before settling on WyzAnt. I found Peng after doing some searching and liked that she won a award for teaching in a previous job. I contacted her and we met up to not only discuss why I wanted to learn Mandarin and what specifically I was looking to get out of it the lessons. We went a little longer than 1 hr. but I was fascinated with all that she had to say and suggest for the next time I spoke with my associates. Then we started the lesson and WOW, not only did she explain things in a way that I could understand but we started speaking (very basic) Mandarin immediately. A couple of days later and I still remember the lesson and have impressed my associates who are looking to converse with me in Mandarin even more when I get better. If you are looking for a great tutor, there is no one better than Peng!!!!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I did tutor work for 6 years in Thailand, Beijing, and United States. I hold a B.A of Chinese Language Arts, a certification issued by Hanban, and a teacher certification issued by the Chinese Ministry of Education.
