I have worked as a naturalist for over ten years throughout the country. A naturalist is a teacher who teaches students about the natural world - botany, biology, chemistry, forestry, ecology, geology, ornithology, and more. I have worked on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, in Wisconsin, in Montana, in Yellowstone National Park, and in the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania.
I am also a licensed teacher in Minnesota. I am licensed to teach 5-8 general science and 9-12 life science. I love to teach ecology and biology. Understanding how the world of biology works will help you understand illnesses, change of seasons, why your dog chases squirrels, and why the leaves drop in the autumn.
I like to teach students outside if possible, especially for topics like ecology. Not all topics permit this, but I try to do it as often as I can. I like to keep things simple, break down the topics into little bits and then build on those to get the big picture. Often science and biology can be overwhelming, but it doesn't have to be!
I was a 7th grade life science teacher and an 8th grade earth science teacher and a substitute teacher in the Twin Cities metro for several years now. Currently I work as a naturalist part time for various nature centers and organizations. I even work at a zoo! I can tutor students in life science, biology, and environmental science. I have a 24 hour cancellation policy and I will charge half my rate for any cancellation with less than 24 hour notice. My rate is $40/hour/student.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught 7th grade life science and high school biology for several years within the Osseo and Anoka-Hennepin School Districts.
I have also taught 8th grade earth science.
I currently work as a naturalist teaching science outdoors for the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board.
I have been a student of botany for many years now. In college, I was required to have several plant collections. I needed to be able to identify local, native plants by sight and to describe their importance within the ecosystem. I also needed to know nad understand how they were adapted to living within the ecosystems in which they were found. A knowledge of plant physiology was required.
Currently I work at a wildflower garden and need to be able to identify the native and non-native plants that grow and bloom there. I also need to be able to chronical the phynology of the garden. I currently design and lead programs with a botany base for the wildflower garden.
Ecology is what I teach the most working as a naturalist for the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board! I love teaching this subject!
I have over a decade of experience working as a naturalist teaching ecology in all environments - in the classroom, outside in the field, at nature centers, and even in Yellowstone National Park.
I have tutored elementary students in reading, writing, grammar, math, and study skills for many years through Sylvan Learning Centers.
I have worked as a naturalist teaching science, writing, and math outdoors at various nature centers and park districts throughout the Twin Cities.
I have a love of learning and teaching children and want to see them succeed.
I have many years of experience teaching science to students of all ages. I have worked as a naturalist teaching science outside since 1999. I love the topic and I love sharing it with students.
Currently I work for the Minneapolis Park and recreation Board as a naturalist teaching science to mostly elementary students outside. I happy to bring my enthusiasm and knowledge to your students to work one on one with them!
I have worked as a math tutor for Sylvan Learning Centers and as a GEAR UP tutor through Hennepin Technical College tutoring 7th grade student in pre-algebra at local middle schools.
I have worked as a Sylvan Learning Center tutor for several years tutoring students in beginning reading skills and reading comprehension. I have worked with students from Kindergarten through to middle school who need help with their reading. Find what students like to read keep them interested and engaged. I hope to help your student succeed in find a love of reading!
I have worked as a study skills tutor for Sylvan helping students in the 5th grade through high school. Organization is the key to mapping out a study plan. Good note taking is the key to understanding the main points of a topic. I can help students achieve good note taking skills and organizational skills as well.
I have studied zoology for many years now. In college I studied to become a wildlife biologist. This included studying herpetology, mammology, ichthyology, and entomology. I have needed to know and understand the classification of animals and their evolution.
This continues in my work as a naturalist. Knowing and understand niches within plant and animal communities and how they are connected helps me to teach students about the world around them.
