Hello! My name is Jen. I first discovered my love of tutoring while studying at Luther College. There, I was recruited to be a peer tutor, and after my first session, I knew that helping students was what I wanted to do with my life.
After teaching in public schools for six years and tutoring students whenever I could find time, I decided to start my own education business to help individual students tackle any academic hurdle in front of them with patience, perseverance, and positivity. Although I loved being a teacher, I wanted to be able to spend more of my time and energy focused on individual students, especially students who were struggling without assistance in the traditional classroom.
With my teaching and tutoring background, understanding of the Common Core, and experience working with students of many different abilities, cultural backgrounds, and preferences, I am dedicated to providing engaging and challenging tutoring sessions to support students where they are right now. I see my job as a continuation of the learning going on in the classroom (or at home!), and will work closely with your child's teacher to ensure that the skills students learn in their tutoring sessions will be easily applied in his or her classroom setting.
Anyway, enough about me. Let's talk about what I can do for you! Feel free to contact me and set up an initial lesson. I look forward to hearing from you! Hello! My name is Jen. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught K-8 Music for four years, and love working with students on grasping the basics. During this time, I tutored three different students (ages 7, 9, and 13) in math, reading, and writing skills. By having close communication with a student's teacher, I am able to ensure that each tutoring session directly helps students with what they are working on in class.
