About Michelle

I am a mother of four and nothing is more important to me than helping young people succeed in their educational goals. I am very laid back and love to make learning as fun as possible. I am an avid reader of fiction genres, including all of the books my children have read. Sometimes, this common ground is helpful for younger kids who have a hard time connecting with adults.

I work full time as a legal writer. In this position, I write content for legal firms throughout the country, as well as assist other writers with the grammatical and factual accuracy of their articles. Through my employment and education, I have substantial experience in writing, literature, grammar, proofreading, religious and general history and legal studies.

I have a master's in transpersonal psychology, the study of holistic psychology and how it is affected by an individual's belief system. My undergraduate degree is in comparative religion. I also have a paralegal degree.

In addition to my extensive editorial and writing experience, I also worked for several years as a youth and family director for a local religious organization. I understand the struggles kids face today and make it my personal goal to be the best mentor I can be.

I have a fairly flexible schedule and am able to accommodate busy family schedules.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

My undergraduate degree is in comparative religions. My master's is in transpersonal (spiritual) psychology, which requires a detailed understanding of how the belief and comprehension of religion can affect an individual's holistic well-being. Finally, I worked many years as the director of youth and family ministries in a Christian church; requiring me to have a thorough knowledge of the Bible.

Criminal Justice

I have worked for more than 10 years as a legal editor and writer, which requires a thorough understanding of the law. I also have a paralegal degree.

Public Speaking

While in high school, I spent four years competing for the forensic team. I have worked many years as a corporate trainer; requiring me to stand in front of large groups. Also, as a youth pastor, I would often have to deliver sermons to the youth of the congregation.

Religion

My undergraduate degree focuses on comparative religion and how it relates to human relations. Additionally, my master's is in transpersonal psychology; a focus on various religions and holistic spirituality. I worked several years as a youth pastor in a Christian church and taught confirmation to the middle school students.

Study Skills

It is important to have a solid foundation in order to achieve educational success. One way to achieve this goal is to utilize a variety of study skill techniques.

Through my education, college and grad school work, I have learned numerous techniques to help achieve success.

Initially, I work closely with each student in order to ascertain what type of learning style he or she seems to match. Sometimes, a student may find a combination of styles beneficial. For example, is the student a visual, auditory or tactile learner? Does the student get distracted easily? If so, maybe a change in study location is the first place to start.

Once this is determined, I will show the student various study skills that align with his or her particular learning style, as well as the subject(s) he or she is studying.

Writing

I work as a full-time legal writer. In this position, I research various locations throughout the country and write blog articles for attorney-clients for their websites. The blog articles involve real-life situations that generally would require the advice of an attorney for an informed resolution.

Additionally, I am also experienced in creative writing. As a graduate with a master's in transpersonal psychology, a lot of the curriculum required experiential exercises. During these exercises, I would have to find extraordinary ways to explain the ordinary.
