Looking for an experienced ACT Tutor with a track record of results? Look no further. I have been teaching and tutoring since 1998 with a strong track record of student success and achievement. I work with over 100 students per year to help them achieve their goals. I have helped Division 1 athletic recruits, Ivy League accepted students, National Merit Finalists, merit scholarship winners, and students with ACT scores in the teens all move their scores to where they need them to be.

I have worked with many students and tutored countless hours through the years. I have an MA in Communications and high school and college classroom teaching experience, and I believe one-on-one coaching offers students the best possible training.

For ACT students, my goal is to help them feel calm, confident, and comfortable with the test. To accomplish this, I create an individualized plan based on their strengths, diagnostic testing, and college goals. Each unique plan is designed to achieve the best possible results in each section of the test; working from current strengths and improving overall test taking skills. Many students see several point bumps in all subjects and their overall ACT composite. Students leave me confident and ready to accomplish their goals.

I will work with students of all abilities and backgrounds. I have found through the years competitive athletes, actors, and musicians tend to do very well with me, as they understand and receive coaching well. I have worked with Division I and Division II athletes who have gone on to receive admission and scholarships at schools of their choice. In addition, I have worked with students of all backgrounds from single digits to 36 composites.

Students have received scores that helped them get into a wide variety of schools including, but not limited to, Stanford, Princeton, Yale, Army, Navy, Brown, Emory, Notre Dame, UCLA, Harvey Mudd, U of MN, U of Wi, Carleton, U of Texas, and many others. Many students go on to receive merit money based on their ACT scores and GPA. Tutoring is an investment that most often pays for itself in admission and/or merit aid.

Testimonial:

"Mrs. C. was a huge help to not only my standardized testing, but my college search as well. She offers a great service that is definitely worth your money. If I had to go back and do the process again, I would do it. With her help, I was able to feel completely confident and prepared for ACT's tricks. I am going to recommend her to anyone who needs help with their ACT scores." Annelise, ACT prep senior

ACT English

I have a Masters Degree in Communications and years teaching in this field. My approach to the ACT English section is to help students understand the best timing, triage and test strategies to accomplish their goal in this section. Together we work on helping the student learn to approach most questions in 30 seconds and to quickly determine if the answer meets all the needed criteria to be correct. Is the answer complete, consistent, clear, and concise? My students average a several point bump in this section from previously taken ACT.

The average student will see a several point bump in this section after working with me. A recent student achieved a perfect 36! The student will learn how to scan and quickly read the passages. She will learn how to use keywords, question stems and process of elimination to move quickly and correctly through the test. The student learns how to correctly triage a passage and order questions from easiest to hardest in each passage and get the timing of the test under control. Even the most reluctant reader and test anxious students see improvement using these strategies.

ACT Math

After working with me the average student sees a several point bump in their math score. We work on timing and triage strategies. Starting from the student's college goals we set a subject specific goal and learn exactly how many questions the student needs to get right to accomplish this goal. The student will learn which questions to skip and which to attempt on test day. The student learns timing strategies for each particular type of math problem. The student will take 8 practice ACTs with me and from those we create a tailored math homework schedule to work with the student's strengths and shore up any weaknesses. We review the 100 most covered topics on the ACT math section and customize the math tutoring very specifically to the student based on how easy and hard they find each particular type of question.

The typical student sees a several point bump in scores on this section after working with me. I teach students timing, triage and test strategies. The student will learn how to approach each of the three different types of passages (Experiments, Charts and Graphs, and Fighting Scientists). The student will learn how to identify every question on the ACT as either a look it up, analysis or prediction question. The student will learn how to use those discoveries and process of elimination to answer any question on this section. I help student's gain confidence in this section by teaching them how they can find every answer from the information available on the test itself, very little previous science knowledge required.

Feeling More Confident!

In only the first two sessions, my son is feeling more confident about the test. From the little tricks to the sheer knowledge of the test. Focusing on sons grammatically weaknesses to boost test score

Excellent

Kellie has been a fantastic resource for preparing for the ACT. She is very discerning to determine our daughters learning style and test taking strengths and weaknesses. She is also precisely on time and the sessions are fast paced - very well worth it.

Excellent Results

10/22/2014 Kellie has helped our son improve his scores on the ACT practice test in every discipline and has given him confidence heading into this weekend's test. Her strategies for setting goals and then achieving them within the structure of each portion of the ACT Test has made this manageable for him, and he's actually looking forward to a test that he was dreading. Thank you, Kellie! 12/18/2014 This week when my son Sam came home from his weekly session with Kellie C, he jumped into his homework and after a brief time he looked up and said, "dad, I really like Kellie. She's blunt with me, but not in a bad way. She's shown me how to prepare for the ACT, what I need to work on and then she helps me prepare each week. And when she gives me feedback, it's in a way that makes me improve, not cutting me down. I really think my ACT score is going to improve on the next test." I continue to tell him we can't control the outcome, only the effort that goes into preparing. In working with Kellie, I couldn't be more proud of Sam's effort and the work he has put into preparing himself for the ACT test.

Impressed

Our son is taking the ACT in the next three weeks and has made great strides with Kellie. She has put him at ease about the ACT process and how he can attack the exam effectively. She also has built a nice rapport with my son, giving him the confidence and trust he needed heading into the test. Ultimately, we will see how he does on the test but I am confident Kellie is putting him in position to bring out his best on test day.

Attentive to important details!

Kellie was an outstanding tutor for our daughter who was preparing for the ACT exam. She is competent in her knowledge of what it takes to prepare a student both academically and mentally for the test. She outlines a detailed plan of what she expects from the student and follows that plan while keeping the parents informed of their progress. Our daughter's score jumped 3 points with just 4 weeks of preparation. We could not be happier!!

Great Tutor

Kellie was such a wonderful tutor to work with. Not only was she incredibly knowledgeable about the ACT, she also adapted perfectly to my learning style. She knew exactly what to do in order to help me and was very easy to work with. Throughout the entire time I was working with Kellie she was very supportive and kept my parents up to date as well. I would highly recommend Kellie to anyone who is looking for an excellent and considerate ACT tutor. Kellie has been working with my daughter for several weeks, she immediately understood my daughter's learning style and has worked with her accordingly. Kellie has great follow through, is punctual and knowledgeable. We would highly recommend her.
