About Ahmad

I believe that my history of working in schools and with students make me an excellent tutor. My extensive background in Spanish, ability to speak other languages, and ability to connect with students make me an excellent candidate. I always knew that I would go into education, however, it took me a while to realize that I wanted to start and end my career in education. Throughout college and after graduating I work in many areas and education was always an important area that I put time and effort into. My senior year of high school I was asked to join the Anoka-Hennepin Educational Foundation, as a student representative and served a year as a representative for my school. After my year was over I was asked to stay on the board and became a community director on the board. I was the first member to go from a student role to a director role on the board. I served on the board throughout college and still remain as an active volunteer for the foundation. Along with this role, I started to work as an Arabic and Islamic Studies Teacher on the weekends at the Islamic Center of Minnesota. I originally went into the school to work as a teacher aid for a year and ended up teaching between two and three classes for five years. Although I didn’t consider education as my career plan or major, I was constantly involved in some form of teaching. The change and connection that I found myself making with students help me realize that education is my calling and that I want to continue making those connections and teaching children Spanish.
Prior to student teaching, I spent a great deal of time working in other areas of education and other school districts. After finishing my degree at Augsburg College I started working at Minnetonka High School. Starting in the fall of 2013, I got myself into the school working as a Hall Para. After seven months of working in that position, I moved into a substitute teaching position and still worked after school as a Para. During this time I also got trained to proctor exams such as AP and IB. In the fall of 2014, I returned to MHS and continued working as a reserve teacher and also continued my work as a Para. I was also actively involved in many areas of the school from supervising events, tournaments, and carrying out many side jobs like ACT and MCA testing. In the fall of 2014, after our Coordinator of Student Behavior left I filled in as the interim until they were able to hire someone full time. In 2014, I also began my graduate studies at Hamline University. After spending a year at a high school I realized that secondary education is my calling. Later in the spring of 2015, with the recommendation of a Spanish teacher at MHS I took a six-week long-term sub job in South Washington County at Park High School. With the experience that I had gained at MHS I was able to successfully carry out the plans and teach the students and familiarize myself with a new setting. This past fall, I returned to MHS and worked as a long-term sub for the World Language Department from October through mid December. Working as a long-term sub helped me to realize how happy I am working in the profession I have chosen and by getting my own class I will be able to do so much more. As I wrap up my student teaching at Richfield Middle School and have had a successful audit by the Hamline Department of Education, I believe I am on track to have a successful first year of teaching and that Providence Academy is a great fit for me.

I have worked with students in all age groups and different with different styles of learning!

I have many methods of helping someone learn Spanish since I myself struggled when I first began!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Arabic

I studied Arabic as a child. Then completed three semesters of Arabic at North Hennepin Community College. I then went to Georgetown University where I did a summer of Intensive level Arabic. I also taught with the Islamic Center of Minnetonka for five years teaching Arabic.

MTLE

I can do subject tutoring for the content exam for Spanish. I received a 270 on the content exam two for Spanish.
