Bio

Hello! My name is Josh and I am a full-time faculty member of chemistry at a university in the Midwest.

I have been privately tutoring/teaching since 2006 in various capacities and I have been a college faculty member since 2016 after completing my PhD in Chemistry. During my graduate education, I spent lots of time tutoring students, working as a TA, and recognizing my passion is in teaching, which led to my eventual career choice.

Hello! My name is Josh and I am a full-time faculty member of chemistry at a university in the Midwest.

I have been privately tutoring/teaching since 2006 in various capacities and I have been a college faculty member since 2016 after completing my PhD in Chemistry. During my graduate education, I spent lots of time tutoring students, working as a TA, and recognizing my passion is in teaching, which led to my eventual career choice.

My approach to tutoring is to not only make sure you understand the concepts but to get a complete sense for your learning style. I've worked with a wide range of students with varying capabilities, learning styles and special needs. A key goal of an effective instructor is recognizing that every student learns differently. As we work together, I'll observe and make note of the approaches and ways in which we tackle topics, paying special attention to methods that help and don't help you learn a concept. I will constantly modify my approach to make sure material is presented in a way that is best suited to your learning style.

I truly enjoy tutoring and I do it because I am passionate about teaching and learning. Working with students who want to improve their knowledge and understanding of a particular topic or subject is a great experience. I enjoy those moments when a student grasps a new concept for the first time and things "click". I work hard for my students to provide as much help as needed and strive to make myself available in a variety of ways for extra help. As an example, after establishing a connection with a student, students get my cell phone number to allow them to reach out easily and quickly.

While my education is rooted in chemistry, I have experience educating and working with students on a wide variety of topics. Be assured that if you are contacting me for an area outside of chemistry that you still receive the same level of high-quality instruction and teaching my students have come to know me for.

When I started working with Josh, I had been struggling with General chemistry for some time. I had lost a lot of my confidence when taking exams and generally was having a really rough time. Excellent tutor

Josh is a great tutor, his depth of subject knowledge in Chemistry and his ability to translate that quickly in our tutoring sessions has been instrumental to improving my performance on tests and labs. I am taking two Honors Chem classes simultaneously and he is always able to explain the overall concept and the application. I have searched for a Organic Chemistry tutor for months before I came across Josh, and he was simply the best and was able to answer all my questions during our session. Tremendous help

I had a great experience with Josh. The tutoring I received really helped me gain a more thorough understanding of o-chem. Studying for o-chem takes plenty of practice with solving problems, and Josh is really good at explaining, and working through problems step-by-step, and I found myself being able to answer questions much more quickly/efficiently than I could initially. I found that Josh's tutoring, along with my own personal studying, proved to be an effective method that allowed me to get solid grades in my o-chem courses.
