Are you a history hater? Do you dread writing assignments? History is about story telling and asking questions about past events and people just like us. I have seven years experience working with college aged students and adults teaching history and advising in writing and research strategies. I have taught United States History, Western Civilization and World History classes in five universities across the United States.
I enjoy collaborating with students to identify their strengths. From there, students and I identify areas for further development and collaborate to help you achieve your goals. My most meaningful teaching experiences have been with students who bring a variety of life experiences and perspectives into their class work. I aim to approach students where they are developmentally, particularly offering students guidance in reading comprehension and note taking skills that will help them succeed in college. My class assignments convey clear student learning objectives, especially stressing the development of essay writing skills and critical analysis of course readings. I also stress that the classroom is a safe space to explore opposing views. I strive to create a classroom community where students can participate in their learning. I invite student directed projects, encouraging students to seek representations of themselves or their interests in their study of history.
My education qualifications:
B.A. in Art History, University of Illinois at Chicago
M.A. in Peace Studies (International Relations and Conflict Studies), University of Bradford, England
Ph.D. in U.S. History and Gender and Women's Studies, University of Illinois at Chicago
