I am a warm, caring and fun teacher with a sense of humor that specializes in students with reading, writing or math difficulties. I am currently an Ann Arbor Public School elementary teacher with 9 years of experience. I have worked with students ages 5 - 10 and have two boys, ages 7 and 9, of my own. I know that students who are having difficulties in school can have self-confidence issues and I know just how to help those students feel better about their learning. I have an enormous library and can give my reading students books at their level to practice reading in between tutoring sessions. I look forward to working with you and your student.

Shannon is a dedicated soul. Our son started kindergarten in 2013 and had a lot of difficulty adjusting. Besides being socially awkward with other kids, he was not completing his work on a consistent basis. By the end of the year, we didn't really know what he was capable of i.e. was he "able and UN-willing" or genuinely lagging behind his peers?
After just 1 meeting with Shannon, we have seen a remarkable difference. She was able to communicate on his level and helped him understand how important it is to focus and feel confident about his reading and writing skills. She is calm, direct and really cares about your child's well-being. Her experience and perspective as a parent and public school teacher are key. I highly recommend her for any family that has a child who needs additional assistance with the demands of school (both social and academic).
Shannon met with my four-year-old granddaughter who we are trying to teach to read before she starts Kindergarten. Shannon was very professional and kept the session entertaining. I will be calling her again in the future.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
