Wayne State University (Elementary Education)
Hello and welcome to my profile! My name is Victoria and I recently graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Elementary Education. Through my experience working with children and my own experience as a student, I have come to realize that patience is what makes a successful student.
I first realized that tutoring is something I greatly enjoy when I got the opportunity to tutor my junior class in high school. I love providing my services to people and I love that expression when I am explaining something and someone finally gets it. My tutoring style is very simple: patience. I believe that every student learns differently and I always keep that in mind when I am tutoring. When explaining materials in a subject, I use everyday ideas to explain what I am trying to teach.
My most recent tutoring experience was when I worked with some elementary children at a local school. I helped them with all areas of their school work including math, science and some Spanish (I am not fluent in Spanish but I do understand some words). Students seek me because they enjoy the way I present their course information in story form which makes it a little easier to understand. I am a very patient person with a passion for providing my help to people. The best feeling comes from seeing the expression on a student's face when we have worked on a certain subject area and they finally understand it. Hello and welcome to my profile! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am in the College of Education at Wayne State University and I am currently working towards my bachelors in elementary education with a focus in science. I was previously a premedical student so I was required to take many advanced science courses. I have taken a majority of the biology courses dealing with plants, animals and human development. In the area of chemistry, I have taken up to organic chemistry. Biology is my strongest point but I am also very proficient in the chemistry area. This past summer, I took my Physical Science for Elementary teacher course required for my program and passed with an A. Science is my favorite subject and it is the one I am most comfortable teaching.
I am a very patient person and have lots of experience working with children. I have volunteered at Harms Elementary school in Detroit and have enjoyed helping the students with their reading, spelling, science and math. Teaching is my passion and I love working with kids because I believe all is needed is a little patience.
