Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary Math

I am convinced it is essential that children develop a strong foundation in math. Possessing a clear and sound understanding of mathematical fundamentals builds confidence. A lack of the same can affect their attitude about and their success in math for the rest of their academic careers. I not only have the materials (texts, workbooks, and games) to help children learn, I also have the patience and ability to explain the concepts in ways they understand. It is my goal to help my students see the interrelatedness of mathematical concepts as well as their practical applications.

Proofreading

With over 15 years of experience writing, reviewing and grading academic, technical and professional pieces. I am familiar with various writing structures as well as reference formats. More specifically, I have sharp proofreading and editing skills and can offer support to improve topic summaries, school reports, theses, manuscripts, presentations, procedural manuals and grant applications.

Psychology

My undergraduate degree is in Honors Psychology. I also have a Master's degree in Psychology. My experience also includes years of research, teaching and professional writing on this subject.

Reading

Written word often differs structurally from commonly spoken word. When we are unaware of such differences, it is more difficult to comprehend what we read sometimes. Not to mention, our speech and reading skills are not always at equal levels.
My experience includes being able to help students learn how to read with expression, and to break down sentences in order to comprehend even complex reading – everything from storybooks to essays to academic journal articles. Along with supplementary materials to improve reading, grammar and writing (which often improves as one’s reading does), I have the patience to work with students on phonics and pronunciation. I also provide lots of encouragement as we advance toward our lesson goals.

SPSS

I can help you complete work for statistics courses and research projects. Using SPSS software, I have created datasets and analyzed data. Based on the analyses, I also have written research reports and presented on the findings. Familiar analyses include descriptive statistics, simpler analyses such as t-tests, and regression methods.

Statistics

I can provide help with your statistics courses and research projects. My experience includes teaching, creating datasets and analyzing data, writing reports and presenting findings. Familiar methods include descriptive statistics, and inferential analyses such as t-tests and regression methods.

Study Skills

I have successfully completed requirements and/or degrees at all academic levels - primary, secondary, undergraduate, and graduate.
I can offer advice for young students who are just starting their learning careers, adult students who are trying to obtain a GED, and older students who may be going back to school for an advanced degree.
I can provide study strategies for memorization, practical application of information, conquering procrastination, goal setting, and project planning among others.

Writing

I have over 15 years of experience writing academic, technical and professional pieces. I can offer support writing topic summaries, school reports, theses, manuscripts, presentations, procedural manuals and grant applications. I am familiar with various writing structures as well as reference formats. Additionally, I have sharp editing skills having graded papers for students and reviewed manuscripts for academic journals.

Wonderful and extremely knowledgable

If you're looking for a tutor to help you explain and understand something you are absolutely clueless about Dr. Crystal is that person! As part of my master's program I was required to take a statistics class, which I knew I would struggle with because math is not my strong point. I had started the class with one low quiz grade but after tutoring sessions with Dr. Crystal my test grades have show
