Geneva College Beaver Falls, PA (English French Educa)
As a Peace Corps volunteer, I spent three years in West Africa teaching English as a second language to the children of Niger. There, I developed methods for reaching them in fun and unconventional ways. I am always looking for ways to make learning fun. Upon my return to the states, I spent years tutoring in English as well as editing several PhD dissertations.
One of my international students, a young lady from China, moved to the states two years ago with little English. As her teacher I helped her navigate day to day actives, learning vocabulary related to topics such as how to use a bank, how to apply for a job and how to find her way around the area using a map. After only two years, she applied for a job with an airline to become a flight attendant. She needed to memorize all the airport codes, learn the time zones and master all the airport and airplane vocabulary. We worked day and night getting her ready for her interview. Many times she was in tears as it all felt like too much, but we persevered. Just last week she passed her test and has accepted a position with American Airlines!
What can I do for you? I can offer you patience and the ability to break down learning barriers as well as work relentlessly to find the right methods that work for you to achieve whatever goals you have set for yourself. Whether you need help memorizing vocabulary, getting over your fear of public speaking, making heads or tails out of power point, I would welcome the chance to help you.
