I am a lifelong learner and in addition to attending college classes, teaching provides an opportunity for continual learning and growth that is part of being a lifelong learner. One of my hopes as an educator is to instill a love of learning in my students, as I share my own passion for learning with them. In our competitive society it is important for students to not only receive a solid education, but to work with someone who is aware of and sensitive to their individual needs.
I believe that each learner is a distinctive individual who requires a safe, compassionate, and motivating atmosphere in which to grow emotionally, cerebrally, tangibly, and communally. There are four foundations that I believe are beneficial to forming such an atmosphere, the teacher is a guide, and learning is self-directed, encouraging respect for all, and adapting to changes in educational opportunities.
I come from a family of math majors, and math was easy for them, not so easy for me. Because this is an area that I had to work a bit harder at, I understand the frustrations and anxieties that can sometimes occur with this subject.
As a lifelong learner, I have had to write many research papers. These papers helped to strengthen my research skills as well as reading for information and writing skills.
I have worked on school committees to identify best practices for implementing the Common Core.
I have taught all grades, PreK - 9th and adults. As an elementary teacher I am responsible for teaching all subjects in a self-contained setting. I have been I have been teaching for over 25 years and still love my job!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been a certified elementary education teacher for over 25 years. My annual evaluations have always been positive.
