My Name is Amy and I am a certified teacher with a Master's degree in Literacy Education. I taught second grade for eight years and third grade for the past two years. I have been tutoring for 12 years in all subjects K-6.
During both my undergraduate and graduate course worked I closely with students that struggled and required intervention. In order to meet the needs of the students I utilize many different methods that include; 1.) the use of technology, 2.) small group and one-on-one instruction, and 3.) assessments such as Development Reading Assessment and QRI. I have also received extension training in differentiated instruction that has allowed me to efficiently meet the needs of all my students.
In addition to formal education I have a great deal of personal experience that allows me to work with students that struggle both academically and socially. Being the second of 8 kids where 5 are special needs i.e. ADD/ADHD, ODD, I find that I have a strong sense of empathy towards these students. From this experience I have learned that these students want to do well and find success, but they are frustrated and need a little extra time.
In addition to a love of teaching I have a very flexible schedule. I am looking forward to meeting some wonderful new students. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
