Nothing is more joyful to me than to see a young learner become excited about strengthening his or her Reading and Language Arts skills. I have over 14 years of experience working with Kindergarten through Third Grade students. I have worked with many children in various settings: whole group classrooms, small intervention groups, individualized tutoring sessions, and ELL programs. I begin by assessing baseline skills. I provide instruction based on each individual's specific needs. I monitor the learning and adjust as needed. I engage each student in such a way that he or she becomes focused and motivated. My teaching is based on "The Writing Road to Reading". The Spalding Method is effective because its principles and methods of instruction are well grounded in reading research. Spalding offers students essential information about phonics and provides comprehension strategies that are necessary for proficient reading. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
