I have over 7 years of private tutoring experience for math classes ranging from 6th grade pre-algebra to proof based real analysis. Unlike many tutors, this is not my side job. This is my career. I work full time as a private tutor and I can guarantee that I have experience helping a student with a problem just like yours. My teaching method focuses on empowering first and foremost.
I currently work with over 30 families in the South East and Mid Michigan area. About 50% of my clients are college students in classes ranging from college physics, calculus, to linear algebra and advanced statistics. The other half of my clients are in high school or middle school math or science courses.
I earned a degree in Advanced Mathematics from Michigan State University. This means that I can not only show you how to solve your mathematical problems, but I can show you why things work the way that they do!
I love to teach math, and it shows. With me, math will be fun. I use a very objective and refined teaching style that balances instruction with independent work that will set you up for success in this math class and beyond! I never move on before my student has shown me that they are capable of solving the problems through their own volition.
In addition to math, I have experience teaching and tutoring physics, chemistry, biology, and ACT/SAT test prep. I have worked as a private tutor, a university lecturer, and as a department chair in a tutoring center. Unlike many tutors, tutoring is my full time job. I do this for a living and the level of professionalism and customer service that you will receive with me is unparalleled.
We will sit down, design a goal-based plan and map out what it will take to reach your goals. First off, I would like to thank you for taking the time to review my page. After just one meeting with Bennett, I went home feeling so much more comfortable with the Calculus 2 material I was previously lost on. He has a deep understanding of Calculus 2 and was able to help me understand the approach to each problem I was having trouble with. In just an hour he taught me several ways to approach each problem I was struggling with. I was more than pleased with the experience; Bennett comes across clear in his explanations and makes sure you understand the material at hand before moving on. His schedule is very flexible, his response time to requests is quick, and he made it so easy to plan a date and time for our session. I would recommend Bennett to anyone who struggles in calculus (or any of the subjects he specializes in) and is looking to gain confidence in approaching tough math or science-related subject matter!
Bennett was very responsive to my son's needs in Calculus. He required a lot of extra help while studying for his mid-term exam and Bennett not only made himself available, but his knowledge of the subject matter made the sessions very productive for my son. I would highly recommend Bennett.
Bennett is very helpful. I met with him for help with my university physics course and he was patient and explained my answers step-by-step to make sure that I understood every step of the problems.
Bennett has a talent for breaking down complex topics in Geometry in a manner which is easily understood. He is very thorough and seems to have a genuine concern for the student's success in the subject.
Bennett is an excellent tutor. He walked my son through problem areas and showed him where mistakes occurred. He supplied my student with helpful notes and showed him what to study before moving on. He encouraged my son to try problems on his own and then guides him through to point out problem areas so he can do similar problems on his own. Bennett is patient and friendly and really sets the bar high for other tutors.
Bennett is patient and keeps my son on task and engaged. He was worried and confused about an assignment he had and once Bennett was done working through the questions and explaining to him what was expected-he felt a great sense of relief--thanks Bennett!!!
My son found it very easy to relate to Bennett, which makes it much easier for my son to learn. For us that is big. Bennett's knowledge of Math and Physics is also beneficial as my son is struggling with both. I highly recommend Bennett.
He has helped my daughter with both pre-calc and AP chemistry. She comes home excited about understanding the material covered
Bennett took his time in explaining concepts to me and helping me fully understand what I was doing. I was also prompted to do questions so that I was confident that I could do the problems without the help of a tutor. He was able to answer my questions and teach me certain concepts in a way that was different than how my professor taught, which allowed me to fully understand the lesson.
Bennett is really good at explaining and checking in to be sure as he is teaching the subject that you are understanding the topic fully. He is patient and very organized, when I am reviewing my notes I can easily understand the parts that I have forgotten because the notes are written in a way that I can understand and re-learn if need be. Bennett tutored me in Calc II which I am taking online so all we have to go off of is my teachers notes that I have printed and he makes sure that his notes that he is teaching me lines up with the way my professor is teaching me online. Bennett is also very knowledgeable on the topics he has taught me and I am way more confident in my math skills after a tutoring session with him. I strongly recommend him.
Bennett is very patient and takes the time to make sure my daughter truly understands the material. We have already signed up for more sessions!
Bennett breaks down the steps to make it easy to understand the problems. He is very patient and funny and makes the tutoring sessions enjoyable.
Bennett is very patient and very helpful in organizational skills, something that my daughter is need of. Looking forward to other sessions.
He was very helpful when it came to the problems I have him and very patient when he asked me to do a problem. Definitely recommend!
Some people just have a knack for teaching. Thank you doesn't seem enough. Our daughter, after one lesson, has new found confidence.
Bennett helped me greatly with Precalculus. He is very patient, understanding, kind and worked to my pace explaining the the subject in a simplistic manner. A great tutor. I am looking forward to working with him again and would refer him to any one needing help.
he really knows what he's talking about and is ready to help in any way possible. He is always trying to simplify things in a way that is easy to understand!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have worked with literally hundreds of Calculus students from many different curriculum over the last 6 years. While at Michigan State University, I served as a lecturer for calculus 2 test and final prep, often lecturing over 200 students at a time.
While at Michigan State University, I earned a 4.0 in Advanced differential equations. I studied differential equations using Matlab under T.Y. Li, the professor who first coined the term "chaos theory."
I earned a 4.0 in Advanced Discrete Mathematics while attending Michigan State University. I am familiar with many textbooks regarding the different branches of Discrete Mathematics including graph theory, combinatorics, and logic.
While studying theoretical mathematics at Michigan State University I was elected as a teachers assistant and lecturer for Linear Algebra for one semester.
I was an Organic Chemistry TA while at Washtenaw Community College. I am still very familiar with the model used to describe and predict behavior of organic hydrocarbons.
