By my count, I have taken over a dozen math classes in high school and college and combined. I am very well aware of how big an effect a teacher's presentation of a subject can affect a student's conceptual understanding, comprehension, and overall performance in a math class. I don't have any experience formally tutoring or teaching people except for a short stint I did in high school at Kumon, but I have over the years repeatedly been an informal tutor to my friends and classmates.
One of the things that I've learned most over the years is that the feeling of respect that exists between a teacher and student often creates a barrier to the open and stimulating conversation that helps the learning process. That barrier is lowered significantly or even disappears in a one-on-one tutoring session, and a good tutor takes advantage of this. The ideal tutor, which I aspire to be, teaches not to the test but to help a student excel in that subject.

This was a first session with Sai and he was very informative and to the point. No time wasted and my son seemed to easily comprehend what Sai was explaining. We will definitely take more sessions with Sai. Highly recommend.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am currently a senior majoring in biomedical physics at Wayne State University. I have taken cross-disciplinary calculus-based physics courses in thermodynamics and an advanced course in biological physics. I was taught AP Physics in high school at the IB level; I also took both AP Physics C exams and received a 5/5 in both.
