As a recently retired High School English Teacher, I fully appreciate the pressure and frustration students feel as they prepare for the ACT and Advanced Placement tests, and as they complete college applications. I have a BA from Michigan State University in English and an MA in English Education from Wayne State University. I was fortunate to teach for 35 years in the Troy School District, and I consider myself blessed to have had a very challenging and satisfying career. My particular expertise is in helping students use language to express their ideas clearly, concisely and correctly.
As a tutor I desire to work with students struggling with or wanting to improve in AP Language and Composition, AP Literature and Composition and senior English classes. I am also willing to assist students with essays for college applications. I am happy to meet as often as necessary for your student to achieve his/her goals. It is my goal to help your student gain fluency, clarity, and confidence in using written language. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
