My daughter is in 9th grade and taking 10th grade geometry. She is struggling a bit, where she has always gotten A's in Math. We thought it was due to a new teacher's teaching methods. Ed very calmly started working with my daughter. He worked with her on her daily homework to assess her strengths and weakness to determine what was going on. Because he is a Geometry teacher and has taught several years, he was able to assess the situation fairly. He is helping my daughter, with her daily homework, going back to early principles she might have missed, AND also helping me with advice on how to approach the school to help the teacher improve. Ed certainly has a desire and the determination to help the student he is tutoring! He makes every attempt to be available for extra help and has a wonderful math tool kit that is full of helpful resources.
Ed was very quick to make my child comfortable with the whole "need a tutor" issue. He is engaging and certainly knows his stuff. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
The ACT Mathematics Test is a 60-question, 60-minute test designed to measure the mathematical skills students have typically acquired in courses taken by the end of 11th grade.
These include Pre-Algebra, Elementary & Intermediate Algebra, Coordinate Geometry, Plane Geometry and Trigonometry. Students often worry unnecessarily over the fact that Trigonometry is included, however, this usually only accounts for 4 problems.

The main goal of Algebra 1 is to provide students with a thorough and extensive study of linear and quadratic equations and inequalities and graphing on the xy-coordinate system. Typically, Algebra 1 courses also cover functions, at least at an introductory level. Absolute value equations and inequalities are also covered in most Algebra 1 courses. A variety of other topics may be included, depending on the particular course.
Algebra 2 typically involves the study of families of function. Most courses cover 3rd degree or higher polynomials, rational expressions, radical equations, logarithmic and exponential equations, probability, sequences and series, and an introduction to trigonometry.
Depending on the textbook, the course may include other topics. Whatever the situation, I'm more than happy to help you master any and all of these areas.
I have a BS in Mechanical Engineering, and I worked for approximately 10 years in various engineering roles for corporations utilizing AutoCad and other CAD software. For the past ten years I have been employed as a teacher, and have taught AutoCad, CATIA, and UG, as well as Algebra 2, Precalculus, and Physics at the high school level. I have a great deal of experience teaching and using most commercial software programs for drafting and modeling. I work at a career and technical education center in Oakland County, Michigan.
Most high school level courses in Geometry include the study of geometric concepts from an algebraic perspective. This includes a study of both two and three dimensional shapes, congruence, similarity, transformations and the relationships between geometric shapes. Proofs are typically covered, usually in a two column format, although that depends on the district and the text.

Typical topics in precalculus include sequences and series, trigonometric functions and identities, matrices, logarithmic and exponential functions, and conic sections. Usually polynomials are covered, specifically the rational zero's theorem and factoring and solving higher order polynomials.
Each course may vary in terms of other topics, but often times parametric and polar equations are included, and the idea of limit is usually introduced as well as the idea of difference quotients as derivatives.
