I am currently a special education teacher and love helping students to realize that math can be fun. I understand that it can be difficult, but am very experienced with teaching methods that can assist students in learning every concept. You may not know how to solve a problem at first, but I can show you a way to figure anything out. While I am certified for elementary education, I am willing to tutor up to and including high school and college geometry. If you are having problems writing, or understanding reading and language arts, I can help with that as well. I believe in trying out the concept in multiple ways until each student understands the concept on his or her own level. Please just let me know what you need and I am willing to help. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught k-6 mathematics for 7 years. I am skilled in teaching one to one correspondence for young students, addition and subtraction strategies including regrouping, and use fun ways to encourage understanding of number facts. I like to encourage students to use facts that they know to solve missing number problems. Elementary math is very broad. Students work with geometry concepts with the most difficult and important being perimeter and area. These two concepts require understanding of multiplication and addition to calculate correctly. Students in K-6 must be able to add multiple digit numbers, regroup (carry and borrow) successfully, multiply and divide multi-digit numbers and decimals. Place value is a concerning area for most students. It is important to have a solid foundation on the exact value of a number before trying to add/subtract/multiply/or divide it successfully. Understanding data in graphs and charts is major area that are focused upon as well. I am certified to teach math to student K-8, and am also a special education teacher. I have the ability to change my teaching style to meet the needs of individual learners.
